We Are All in This Together Band Camp:
July 17-21, 24-28 @ 9am - 6 pm

Things you will need for camp:

Everyone will need to dress for the heat and have good comfortable tennis shoes or sneakers. This is a must! Sunglasses, and or a hat. PENCILS!!

SUNSCREEN!! Chapstick

Personal water coolers if you are not interested in the Gatorade that will be provided.

Bring your lunch and a snack everyday as we will not be leaving the school. Also do not count on the vending machines being stocked.

Percussion players will need a three ring binder with page protectors. These you can get at Wal-Mart if you do not already have them.

Wind players will need to make sure you have a lyre and a flip folder. These can be purchased at Railroad Bazaar; plus any reeds that you woodwind players will need. Minimum strength of #3 reeds. Brass players check your valve oil, etc.

Make sure you eat breakfast everyday!!! Unless you have a strong stomach I do not recommend cereal and milk.

Did I mention that you might want to bring some sunscreen and chapstick?

NONA JEAN PACE - OBITUARY

Nona Jean Pace, 66, of Decatur died Monday July 10, 2017 in Huntsville Hospital. She was born December 21, 1950.  Her daughter, Miranda Reunion (husband Nathan) and granddaughter Stella live in the Elkmont community.

I wanted to thank all of our friends and family for the prayers the last few days with the passing of my mom. There will be a memorial service held in her honor this Saturday, 11 a.m. at Ridout's Brown Funeral Home in Decatur. My mom would love everyone to come celebrate her life. My mother didn't show sad emotions or weakness, so laughter and cheer is what she would want.

CLIFFORD HOWARD WILFORD - OBITUARY

Clifford Howard Wilford, 93, of Elkmont, a highly honored and much respected World War II combat veteran, passed away July 6, 2017, at a nursing home in Danville, Illinois. He was born Jan. 18, 1924, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, to William F. Williford and Sarah Elizabeth Reed. He was born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains. He joined the Army Oct. 20, 1940, at age 16. His unit was the 10th Infantry Regiment at Fort Thomas, Kentucky. He was deployed to Iceland before the start of the war, relieving the British Army. They guarded the shores protecting the naval bases and shipping lanes. He was then sent to England and Ireland for training for the D-Day invasion at Normandy. His unit landed on Utah Beach. After the landing, the 10th Infantry Regiment became part of the 10th Infantry Division of the 3rd Army, commanded by Gen. George Patton. The 10th Infantry participated in five European campaigns, 23 river crossings by assault, the taking of Angers, Fontainebleau, Rheims, Metz, the Battle of the Bulge, and through the Siegfried Line across Germany. Recently, he was awarded the French Legion of Honour medal, the highest distinction awarded by the French government, for his bravery in the liberation of France from the Germans. 
After victory in Europe, he returned to Kentucky, where he met his wife of 45 years, Jewell Studdard. He was trained as an electrician in the coal mines of Harlan County, where all three of his children were born. He moved the family to Michigan in the early '50s to work in the auto industry. He attended night school at the University of Michigan and earned his degree in electrical engineering. He retired from General Motors as a superintendent of environmental services. 
After Jewell's death, he married Cathy Black of Elkmont. 
He had a deep faith in God and lived his live in a way to bring glory to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is a member of Elkmont United Methodist Church. He had many interests before and after retirement. He loved to write music and play his guitar. He could play any string instrument and the piano. He had many copyrighted songs, his music had been recorded, and he played at the Grand Ole Opry. He loved to net and band birds, and he kept a log for the National Audubon Society. He was a life member of Masonic Lodge 16 of Athens, was a Master Mason, and was on the membership roles for just short of 65 years. He was a member of the Eastern Star Athens Chapter 214. He was an avid golfer who was on the links as much as possible. Later in life, he and Cathy enjoyed watching Atlanta Braves baseball and Alabama football (Roll Tide!). 
He taught his children to live life with love of family, with compassion and respect for others, and with a work ethic to do the best you can. He was the personification of the Greatest Generation, a true American hero. He lived the American Dream.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell L. Wilford. 
He is survived by his present wife, Cathy Black Wilford of Elkmont; her two sons, Jimmy (Wanda) Black of Rogersville, and Mickey (Teddy) Black of Paducah, Kentucky; a sister, Beulah Sutton of Middlesboro, Kentucky; his daughter, Carolyn Sue Hall (Jeffery, deceased), of Hilton Head, South Carolina; and his sons, Gary Lynn (Judy) Wilford of Georgetown, Illinois, and Howard Eugene (Gloria) Wilford of Fort Mill, South Carolina; his 10 grandchildren; his 21 great-grandchildren; and his one great-grandchild.
He was laid to rest in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

YOUR ELKMONT FIRE FIGHTERS ARE PLAYING WITH WATER TODAY

No, there isn't a fire at Elkmont School today but our fire department will be doing its yearly hose testing about 11 a.m. It will be in  the school parking lot. It should take about two hours. You are welcome to watch if you like.

This is just one of many things we do each year to help your homeowner insurance rate. It also helps us to see if we have any equipment failures or need to purchase replacements.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES FOR THE KIDDOS

As the world turns and the summer days float by, one thing you can count on is vacation Bible School.  A great opportunity for the kids to have fun and learn about Jesus Christ all at the same time.

THE RED CABOOSE OPENED YESTERDAY!!!!!

Today was awesome!! Had some hiccups along the way but for our first day, I think it went rather well. The kids did amazing. They worked really hard considering it was a first for all of them. I want to thank everyone that came out to support us and were patient while my teenage crew learned the ropes.The menu is not set in stone. 

I will be adding and taking away (tweaking) until it is what we (the town of Elkmont) want. I will post regular updates on Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat as that happens. We are up for suggestions! Please feel free to suggest menu items, hours, etc. This is YOUR restaurant!! 

This is our Menu as of today , so feel free to call ahead. Remember, this is not a fast food restaurant and it is cooked to order. 

So come on in, sit a spell  and visit.

JAMES EDWARD WILSON - OBITUARY

James Edward Wilson, age 56 of Elkmont, AL died Monday, July 03, 2017 at Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, Alabama. Born Friday, July 22, 1960 in Elora, TN, He was the son of the late Monroe Wilson and Flossie Wilson. He lived in the Ardmore area for the past 16 years coming from Fayetteville TN and was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, Athens Al. He served 8 years in the Tennessee National Guard. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of The National Riffle Association and he loved spending time with his Grandbaby.

He is survived by his wife, Amanda Wilson, of Elkmont, AL, Daughter , Jessica Wilson Salters (Clay Holcomb) of Fayetteville, TN, three sons, Wes Isham, of Elkmont, AL, Al Isham, of Elkmont, AL, Cody Isham, of Elkmont, AL, one Brother, Kenneth Wilson, of Birmingham, AL, Three Sisters, Barbara Case, of Lake Panasoffkee, FL, Margaret Taylor, of Fayetteville, TN, and Mary Wilson, of Fayetteville TN. One Grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 06, 2017 at Ardmore Chapel from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 07, 2017 at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home at 11:00 AM with Tony Jacobs and Lon Ostryzki officiating. Burial will be in Prosperity Cemetery, Fayetteville, TN.

THE RED CABOOSE IS COMING

 The Red Caboose Cafe will be opening July 6th. On Monday thru Saturday, we will serving breakfast at 5am with lunch around 10 am (breakfast available all day) until 2 pm.

On our menu, you will find fresh large eggs,smoked apple wood bacon, whole hog sausage, and HOMEMADE biscuits with gravy so thick, you can build a house with it. Bologna will be available too.

For lunch you will find a large variety of fantastic angus burgers, beer battered onion rings, large crinkle fries, all BEEF hotdogs, and western style battered chicken tenders. There will also be a selection of fresh salads, all prepared daily.  We will be serving Sun Drop floats on a daily basis for all ya'll sun drop junkies as well as fountain Pepsi products, tea and coffee. There is much more but this will give you an idea of what to look for, ole time American Cookin'.
