CHANCE OF SEVERE WEATHER TONIGHT

Still cleaning up limbs from storms a few days ago?  Looks like another bout of strong storms might come through Elkmont tonight.

A STORM SYSTEM WILL APPROACH THE REGION FROM THE WEST TODAY...WITH THUNDERSTORMS INCREASING IN COVERAGE ONCE AGAIN BY LATE THIS AFTERNOON. WIDESPREAD STORMS ARE EXPECTED BOTH IN ADVANCE OF THE COLD FRONT THIS EVENING...AND OVERNIGHT AS THE COLD FRONT PUSHES EASTWARD INTO THE REGION. SEVERE STORMS ARE EXPECTED DURING THIS ENTIRE PERIOD...WITH DAMAGING WINDS OF 60 TO 70 MPH AND BRIEF TORNADOES THE PRIMARY THREATS.

OTHERWISE...A WIND ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE REGION BETWEEN 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON AND 7 AM TUESDAY FOR SUSTAINED WINDS OF 20 TO 25 MPH AND FREQUENT GUSTS TO 35 MPH. WINDS WILL LIKELY BE
SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER IN ELEVATED TERRAIN. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IS ALSO IN EFFECT FOR ALL COUNTIES BEGINNING AT 7 PM THIS EVENING...DUE TO THE POTENTIAL FOR ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINFALL WITH THIS STORM SYSTEM.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...

THE THREAT FOR STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL PERSIST BETWEEN 7 AM AND NOON TUESDAY...MAINLY FOR LOCATIONS EAST OF INTERSTATE 65. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH WILL ALSO REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE FORECAST AREA THROUGH 1 PM TUESDAY.

Expect cooler, more fall-like weather mid and late next week.

Hill Spirit Thoughts:
To prepare for a possible power outage, take some time today to put together a black out box, kit, basket or whatever you want to call it.  Gather everything you will need to shine a little light on the subject so you don't stub your toe if the power goes out. Hill Spirit is making sure the old windup alarm clock is ticking before bedtime.
