Elkmont resident, Lee Roy Higgins Jr, 74, died September 11, 2015   Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 2:45 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home. Service will follow at 3 p.m. with burial in Athens City Cemetery.

The Elkmont Lions Club dove shoot will be held September 12.  Preselect spots are $30 and $20

WILSON WARRIORS/ ELKMONT RED DEVILS RESULTS

Rough night for the Elkmont Red Devils on September 11.  It is important to remember "rebuilding, rebuilding" after last year's successful season.  The Red Devils are looking to collect experience and maturity this year, no pain - no gain.

FLORENCE DAILY TIMES:
The Wilson Warriors were firing on all cylinders in an emphatic 55-0 victory over region foe Elkmont on Friday.  The Warriors finished with 541 total yards while holding the Red Devils to 128. The Warriors carried out a balanced attack, finishing with 331 yards rushing and 210 passing.

Wilson held Elkmont to two yards per carry in the shutout.

JANNIFER LYNN LOVELL - OBITUARY

Jannifer Lynn Lovell, age 38, of Elkmont passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015. She was born in Limestone County to Charles Woodrow Daly and Dorothy Louise Hardiman Daly on April 12, 1977.

Services will be Friday, September 11, 2015 at 2:00PM at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Brother Rick Craft will be officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 6:00-8:00PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ricky Daly.

Jannifer is survived by her husband: Jeffery Lovell, three sons: Derek Lovell, Daylin Lovell and Landon Daly. One grandson: Bryson Lovell, two sisters: Connie Norton and Paula Slaton. She is also survived by her brother: Jeff Daly, uncles: Louie Daly, Billy Daly, Junior Daly and Charles Hardiman, her mother-in-law: Glenda Lovell, sister –in-law: Michelle Lovell, two nieces: Jessica Newell and Terra Hill, five nephews: Christopher Casey, Dakota Daly, Keith Slaton, Cory Wallace and Cody Wallace, and numerous other family and friends.

Player signups will be 9/26/2015 and 10/3/2015 from 11-2pm and 10/1/2015 from 6-8pm in the concession stand at the ball fields.

ELKMONT COWS ARE THE BEST

Abby, Jacob, and Natalie Lovell participated in the livestock competition at the Giles County Fair on August 27th. All 3 brought back ribbons! 

Natalie (7th grade) got a second place ribbon with her heifer, Ida. 

Jacob (6th grade) also brought home a second place ribbon with his black angus cow, Della Rose. 

Abby (8th grade) actually beat out her brother for first place in their commercial class. Abby went on to win Reserve Champion of the Commercial Class. Abby's cow, a black baldy, is named Fancy. 

The trio plans to show in Lawrencesburg, TN next month and probably in Montgomey next month too. Abby and Jacob are the children of Steve and Emily Lovell. Natalie Is the daughter of Derrick and Wendi Lovell. The cousins represent Lovell Farms. Their mentor is their uncle, Nick Lovell, EHS class of 2000.

NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH - DAY 11

CHILDREN NEED TO HAVE SELF RELIANCE SKILLS TOO
September is National Self-Preparedness Month.  Here is another post to help you protect your family.

If your twelve year old was lost and alone, would he or she be able to take care of themselves and siblings/friends until they could get to help, or until help reached them? Feed Himself ? Defend Herself? Find Their Way Home?

Work with Tools?  Stay Warm?  Get Help?

And importantly – do YOU know how to do all of these things? Have you taught your child? Make that a priority…learn a new skill a week…practice them together – BE PREPARED!

WILSON WARRIOR CROSS COUNTRY RUN

The Red Devil Cross Country teams took to the trails again this past Saturday, September 5 on the campus of Wilson High School in Florence, AL. It was a tough day for all of the runners as they faced extreme heat from the time they stepped up to the starting line to the time they came across the finish line.

Competing in the large school division (4A-7A), the Elkmont boy’s team finished 8th out of 15 teams and the girls team finished 7th out of 12 teams. Chase Prater (2nd) and Chance Bailey (15th) earned top 15 honors. Claudia Allen just missed top 15 with her 16th place finish and PR of 22:56. 

The finish line was an exciting vantage point for this spectator as the Red Devils showed strength in the final 160 meters of the race. After racing for 3 miles, sometimes the hardest part of the race is that .1 mile to round out the 5K distance. Most of the Red Devils finished the race sprinting, leaving nothing out on the course! 

All of the Running Red Devils did great at the meet but there are a few that I want to call out after this race – our new runners! 3 of our 7th graders, Lexxie Bailey (31:00), Jon Mikel Owens (25:14) and Jeffrey Payne (27:34), raced the varsity distance of 3.1 miles at this meet and they did great! Another new runner on the team is Luke Little, a junior that made the switch from football to cross country this year. This was his first ever cross country meet and he was the third runner for the Elkmont boy’s team with a time of 20:52!

The team will be running the 9/11 Heroes Run in Athens, AL on Saturday, September 12 and will return to interscholastic competition on Tuesday, September 15 at the Randolph Classic, better known as the Mud Run at UAH. It is a great race to come and watch – the course has them running through the creek 4 times and it can turn into a muddy mess! Come out and support these hard working athletes! They like to be cheered on just like any other athlete – it pushes them to run a little faster when they hear people cheering for them!


COACH PUGH'S CORNER:
We were in the large school category at today's HOT race (4A-7A). Girls finished 7th...Boys 8th. Great run by all! Chase 2nd and Chance 15th each receiving a t-shirt for their top 15 finish. First time 5K race for some 7th graders and they did a stand out job! I can't tell you how hard these kids work at practice and on race day! You want to see sheer guts......go to a XC race in the heat!
