ELKMONT FAMILY NEEDS HELP

Charity starts at home and we have another opportunity to help an Elkmont family. ELKMONT VOTES IN SPECIAL ELECTION

Voters in Limestone County will head to the polls again before year's end, after Tuesday's special election for the Republican candidate in the District 5 State Representative race.
Preliminary results were Chris Seibert with 39 percent of the vote and Danny F. Crawford at 33 percent. As no Republican candidate received 50 percent of the vote Tuesday, there will be a run-off election between Seibert and Crawford on December. 8.

HOW DID ELKMONT VOTE?
The turnout was very low with only 207 Elkmont voters marking their ballots.  Here are the results.

What is Cross Country? It's tough to put into words so instead of trying to, why don't you come to Blue Springs Elementary tomorrow for the Clements XC Invitational! All the Limestone County schools, plus a few from Lauderdale County will be there - so come cheer them on! I know the Red Devils would love to see some locals at the meet! JV girls/boys kick it off at 4:00, followed by the varsity girls at 4:30, and the varsity boys wrap it up at 5:00. Hope to see you there!!!

REVISED 2015 CROSS COUNTRY SCHEDULE

As the season goes on, changes always occur in the cross country schedule.  This year isn't any different.  The Elkmont Running Red Devils have these races remaining on their schedule.  Each race has at least one of our runners setting a personal record.  Wishing them the best of luck in the remaining month of their season.

10/6 – Clements Invitational @ Blue Springs Elementary
*JV races begin at 4:00 pm
*Varsity races begin about 5 pm. 

10/9 – Disney Cross Country Classic (race times are Eastern)
*Varsity girls @ 3:50 pm

(a few adults going with us are running in the open 5K)

ELKMONT SATURDAY MARKET OPEN THIS SATURDAY

Lots of fun in downtown Elkmont this Saturday. The Elkmont Saturday Market will be open from 8 am- noon.  

Market is this Saturday! Come to Elkmont and visit all the local shops or enjoy the trail. For more info, Elkmont Market Facebook Link  If anyone is interested in a booth, let Chris Paysinger know. Booths are 10ft wide and 15ft deep. Cost is $15. Booth space for anyone wanting to sell produce and plants is only $5!
 

Here are some of the places you can visit while at the Market:

Downtown Elkmont stores:
Belle Chevre, Owl Creek Boutique, UG White, Paper Trail Antiques, The Hinge and Aardvark Tees. 

Places you stop for a snack are Cindy Lou's Deli (across from downtown Church of Christ) and a mile to the west on 127 is Elkmont Subs and the Gin House.

Enjoy the beautiful weather on the Richard Martin Trail by walking, running as well as bike or horse riding.  Please remember all land along the trail is private; stay on the trail.  We love our visitors but it is startling to see people we don't know in our yards.

Elkmont Market Created to Sell  Re-Purposed Creations

DeAnna McNeill, a mixed-media artist, said she plans to set up monthly at the new Elkmont market. She assembles wood, tin cans, bottle caps, old roof tins, car tags and cooking tins into a picture assemblage. “My work is more art, while his work can be reused,” McNeill said. “I love the way Chris saves interesting wood and makes it useful again.”

McNeill, an Athens resident, participated in Elkmont’s Hilltop Arts Festival in November. She loved the feel of this northern Limestone County town of close to 500 people. “I just love what Elkmont is trying to do,” McNeill said. “It’s an interesting place that’s become kind of hip in the way it supports the arts and small business.”

The new date for this event is October 10, 2015. For those that registered for the July 11, 2015 date, your registration is automatically transferred. You can withdraw your registration for a refund, if the new date does not work for your schedule. We look forward to running with you in the Fall!

SOUTHERN REINVENTION AT ELKMONT

Come to Elkmont, eat some cheese, pet a goat, shop at the market, run the trail and visit Aardvark Tees, Hinge, UG White, Belle Chevre, Paper trail, and the Owl Boutique! Grab a bite to eat at the Gin House or Cindy Lou's Deli.

 Belle Chevre, one of the country’s most awarded and acclaimed artisan goat cheese creameries is combining two of its annual events to celebrate "Belle's Big Day" on Saturday, October 10 in their hometown of Elkmont, Alabama. The third annual Southern ReInvention celebrates southern artists, craftspeople and artisans and the creativity of the South. The event is open to the general public, and tickets are $5, to be purchased at the door.

FIRST PLACE AT THE FIDDLERS

The 49th annual Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention at Athens State University was last weekend.  Musicians come from far and near to compete in the various competitions.  Elkmont's Damion Kidd took first prize  in the Dobro.  

What is a Dobro?
* The word Dobro is, in popular usage, the generic term for a wood-bodied, single cone resonator guitar.

CHURCH LADIES AT THE RED CABOOSE

The Elkmont United Methodist Church Ladies are having a yard
sale on Saturday, October 10th from 7am - 12 pm. You will find these lovely ladies in the Red Caboose and in addition to the yard sale.  They will be selling fresh doughnuts and coffee. 

 
This is a fund raiser for the UMC women's group. All funds raised go back into the Elkmont community.

CAROLYN FRANCES CLEM - OBITUARY

Carolyn Frances Clem age 75 of Decatur, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Decatur-Morgan Hospital. Mrs. Clem was born September 25, 1940 in Lawrence County, AL to Hubert Leon Terry and Vera Atha Smith Terry.

Services were Saturday, October 3, 2015 2:00 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Justin Roberson officiating. Visitation was Saturday, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery Athens.

Mrs. Clem was a member of Danville Road Church of Christ.

Preceded in death by her parents, Hubert Leon and Vera Atha Terry; one brother, Mitchell Ronald Terry.

Survived by her husband, Doris Wayne Clem, Sr. of Decatur; one son, Kevin Bradford and wife, Bonney of Decatur; one step-son, Doris Wayne Clem, Jr. and wife, Gail of Elkmont; 4 grandchildren, Jonna Bradford, Will Bradford, Daniel Clem and David Clem; 4 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmy Charles Terry and Jeffrey Leon Terry and wife, Kathy both of Moulton, AL.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
