ROBBIE NEIL MCCLUNG - OBITUARY

Robbie was born May 24, 1932 in Limestone County to Bufford and Lillie Sullivan.

Preceded in death by her husband, J.S. McClung and her parents, Bufford and Lillie Sullivan; two brothers, Douglas Sullivan and “Buddy” Junior Sullivan; three sisters, Ruby Carter, Emma Jean Kyle and Betty Jo Butler.

Survivors, two daughters, Linda Smith and husband, Glenn, Bea Terry and husband, Donald; sister, Pauline Garrett; brother, Richard Sullivan and wife, Gayle; six grandchildren, Michael Smith and wife, Chelsa, Felicia Goodson and husband, Jerry, Shannon Terry and wife, Kristie of Elkmont, Brian Smith and wife Donna, Stephen Terry and wife, Joni, Heather Ryan and husband, John; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday, June 10, 2017 2:00 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Donald Terry officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shannon Terry, Stephen Terry, Michael Smith, Brian Smith, Johnny Carter and Jimmy Lane. Honorary pallbearer will be Frank Schrimsher.

DECATUR DAILY ALL AREA BOYS TRACK AND FIELD TEAM

The spring sports "best of the best" teams are being released.  These selected to recognize the outstanding seasons of individuals rather than school team.  The Decatur Daily released their All Area Boys Track and Field Team this week.  Elkmont had one representative this year.  Congrads to Noah for a fantastic season. 

Noah Sharp, Sr., Elkmont: Won the Class 3A state championship in the 300-meter hurdles, 41.85.

Proud of this young man and his accomplishments! Was recognized with a Limestone County Board Resolution tonight for State Champion in 3A 300 meter hurdles! Noah Sharp I am pleased to have had the chance to coach you and I wish you all the best! All of this with no track and 4 hurdles! Great job!

LADY DEVILS ON THE 2017 ALL COUNTY TEAM

The girls high school soccer coaches from Limestone County selected the top players from the Athens-Limestone area.  The Lady Devils had several players honored with a spot on the 2017 team this year.

FIRST TEAM:

This freshman plays midfield.  She had eight goals and 2 assists this season.

A defensive midfielder, she is also a freshman.  Her season included one goal and two assists.

Bailey Webb
This junior is honored as a defender. This is a player positioned in front of his goalkeeper who is primarily focused on stopping the opposition’s attackers from scoring.

LET'S GO PAINT

Limestone County Council on Aging will begin hosting Paint/Craft Classes at each Senior Center throughout the county. Open to anyone in the community who is 60 or older. If interested, call Madison Curnutt, 256-216-3897 to reserve a spot. Space is limited.

*Athens Senior Center- 2nd Tuesday of each month, Begins 6/13 @12:00 

*Ardmore Senior Center- Every Thursday, begins 6/8 @9:30- bring 12 pictures from 1 event to scrapbook. 

*Elkmont Senior Center- 2nd Wednesday of each month, begins 6/14 @10:00 

*Goodsprings Senior Center- 3rd Thursday of each month, begins 7/21 @9:45

LOTS OF FUN THINGS TO DO ARE COMING TO ELKMONT

The weekend of June 9-10 is shaping up to be a fun filled event.  The Smokin' Railroad is coming to town. We would like to take this opportunity to invite each and everyone of you out to the 8th Annual Smokin' Railroad St BBQ Cook-Off. June 9th and 10th. 

Friday night we will have a few vendors setting up. Bring the family for a free fun night of great friends and music. Hosted by Elkmont Lions Club Daniel Jones will take the stage at 6 followed by Garris/Cole Co. Lesley Garris Mike Cole Tim Dugger Nick Harvey Around 6:45. Make plans and hope to see you there! Saturday Morning Street Festival starts at 8 am  with more craft and food vendors setting up. People's Choice pulled pork tickets start on sale at 11 am with judging starting at 11:30. Be sure to buy a ticket and get the opportunity to taste the best BBQ from the teams.

Come out and support the Elkmont Lions Club as we raise money to go back into the community.Mark your calendar to spend the weekend with us for some small town Alabama excitment and good eatin'.

BARRY'S CORNER - LIVING IN ELKMONT

I've heard the the quote "The best thing to do when it is raining....Let it rain". Rain falling always gives me time to pause and be still. I feel like I can sit without guilt. Another result of being raised by parents and grandparents who thought "idle hands were the devils' handiwork". Sitting and thinking and opening up those packages of memories I've stored. Much like the rain it is a cleansing. It might sting when it first hits but then it washes over you and can refresh and eventually cause growth. Moving on...change...whatever you choose to label it is natural and needed like the rain. And like our lives, it flows and touches places that it won't ever touch again. Peaceful out here tonight!
