HEAT ADVISORY THRU THURSDAY

The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a heat advisory for today and Thursday for Limestone County.

I have seen the forecast for this summer by Joe Bastardi - he is really good at long range weather and trends.  He says the hottest weather in regards to average will be in June.

Now a few words from totally ready blog about dealing with the heat.

For those dealing with soaring temperatures there are a few things to do now.
  1. Open windows to catch cross breezes in the early morning and at night. After mid morning close windows to delay heating of your home.

  2. Close blinds and drapes after mid morning, especially those that are sun facing.

  3. To keep more of the heat out and preserve the light, line windows with mylar blankets like those in your survival kits. You will be amazed how much it reduces the heat.

  4. Drink plenty of water. Soda and coffee will increase your thirst. Alcohol will raise your temperature, avoid it completely.

  5. If you are working take frequent breaks.

  6. Run errands early in the morning and after 6:00pm.

  7. Turn on fans to circulate air and cool you down.

  8. Wear loose fitting clothing.

  9. Turn on air conditioner unless advised that the power grid is overwhelmed and air conditioning is advised against.

  10. Go to the mall or a movie if you can't cool your home.

  11. Stay out of the sun.

  12. Bring pets and children in the house. If they need outdoor time make it in the early morning and always in the shade.

  13. Take a shower or a dip in the pool and don't dry your hair.

  14. Do not leave children or pets in the car even for a few minutes.
  15. Check on elderly or handicapped neighbors and family members.

  16. Eat cold foods.

  17. If you are cooking do it outside. A crock pot is good. I plug mine in on the patio to keep the heat outdoors.
