The bottom of a pineapple gets ripe and even overripe while the top or crown stays green. To remedy, turn the pineapple upside down and let it stand that way until it is ripe. How do you know it's ripe? Pluck a small leaf. If the leaf comes out easily, the pineapple is ready to cut and serve.
