Twenty-one teams from Tennessee and Alabama basted, rubbed, grilled
and smoked chicken and ribs in hopes of winning the title of Elkmont
Lions Club Smokin' Railroad BBQ Cook-Off grand champion.
Judges awarded the top prize to Slingin' Pig Meat headed by Travis Prince of Owens Cross Roads.
Reserve grand champion went to Pit Row BBQ and Rusty Weaver from Tuscumbia. Huntsville's Alan Osmer and Grill'n N Chill'n took home the People's Choice Award.
Category winners were:
In chicken:
Slingin' Pig Meat, first; Grill'n N Chill'n, second and Mack Attack of Florence, third.
In ribs:
Citizens Bank and Trust of Elkmont, second; Blowin' Smoke BBQ of Taft, Tenn., third.
"This was our best event yet. We had more cookers, more vendors and more people. It was hopping," said event coordinator Susan Pylant.
The event raised $3,000, which the Lions Club will use to provide glasses and eye exams for children and two $1,000 scholarships to Elkmont High School seniors.
