ELKMONT WEATHER TODAY

It is absolutely a wonderful morning with temperatures in the middle 60s. Hope you have the chance to enjoy the cool air, a rare thing on the last day of June.

 
This afternoon will be in the low 90s with lower humidity with light northerly winds. Tonight, mostly clear with lows falling back into the middle 60s for another fantastic morning on Friday.

NEWS COURIER 2016 ALL COUNTY MENS SOCCER TEAM


Elkmont had several Kicking Red Devils on the the News Courier's 2016 Best XI Boys Soccer team this year.  Congrads to each of our players who had outstanding seasons and were recognized by the Limestone County soccer coaches.

Valencia lit up the scoreboard for 35 goals for the Red Devils, which hosted a first-round playoff game for the first time in school history. Valencia added 11 assists for Elkmont.

Alvarado set up Valencia on many of those goals, leading the team with 12 assists while scoring seven goals.

The girls high school soccer coaches from Limestone County selected the top players from the Athens-Limestone area.  The Lady Devils had two players on the second team and two received honorable mention.

The House voted on overriding the president's veto of legislation that disapproved of the Labor Department's fiduciary rule. The resolution disapproved the rule issued by the Labor Department on April 8, 2016, commonly known as the fiduciary rule on retirement investment advice, that subjects broker-dealers who oversee retirement investments to the fiduciary standard under which they must provide investment advice that is in the best interest of the investor "without regard to the financial or other interests" of the financial institution, adviser or other party. NIKLAUS SAMUEL WATKINS - OBITUARY


Niklaus Samuel Watkins infant of Elkmont passed away Sunday, June 26, 2016 at his residence. Niklaus was born June 1, 2016 in Madison County, AL to Charles Andrew Watkins and Brittany Amber Phillips Watkins.

Graveside services will be Saturday, July 2, 2016 11:00 a.m., at Sylone Cemetery with Mitch McCormick officiating. Limestone Chapel Funeral Home assisting the family.

Preceded in death by his grandfather, Glen Watkins.

Survived by his parents, Andrew and Brittany Watkins; twin sister, Katalina Watkins; grandparents, Jane DuBois Soder and husband, Dennis, Daniel Phillips and Lisa Watkins; numerous aunts, uncles and many other friends.

SYLVIA VAUGHN - OBITUARY


Sylvia Vaughn, age 64 of Elkmont, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at her residence. Mrs. Vaughn was born October 18, 1957 in Lincoln County, TN to Edward Shelton and Ruby Shields Shelton.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Limestone Chapel Funeral Home assisting the family.

Preceded in death by her husband, Charles Vaughn; son, Tony McLemore.

Survived by one daughter, Angela Vaughn of Elkmont; several nieces and nephews.

FIRE DEPARTMENT GETS NEEDED FUNDS

Republican Representative Danny Crawford presented the Elkmont Volunteer Fire Department with a check to purchase a much needed piece of equipment. The department put in for a grant with Rep. Crawford to purchase a TNT Rescue Combi Tool. This will be used to help get victims out of wrecks quicker and safer.  


 
Accepting the check for the fire department is Chief Michael Carter, President Robby Newport and EMS Secretary Ryan Pylant.

CHARLES MONROE HARDIMAN - OBITUARY

Charles Monroe Hardiman, age 72 of Elkmont, passed away on Friday, June 24 2016 at his residence. Mr. Hardiman was born on August 29, 1943 in Limestone County to Snow and Lillian Broadway Hardiman. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Louise Hardiman Daly, and step-son, Timothy Keith Lewis.

Mr. Hardiman is survived by his wife, Donna Hardiman; three daughters, Tonia Hardiman Cofer (Victor) , Tina Hardiman Sandlin (Mike), Dee Hardiman Sharp (Chris); step-son, Lee Rodgers (Ashley); grandchildren, Michelle Waldrep , Levi Hardiman, Tia Hadden, Austin Sharp, Ciera Sandlin Cornelison, Anna Sandlin, Noah Sharp, Lyndsey Sandlin, Dylan Rodgers, Brandy Borden, Hannah Cofer, Drew Rodgers; great-grandchildren, Tyler Waldrep, Brayden Rodgers, Josie Waldrep, Maddie Borden, Kinley Borden, Jase Borden and numerous family and friends.

Funeral service will be Monday, June 27 2016 at 2:00 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Doug Colwell officiating. Visitation will be in the chapel from 6:00-9:00 on Sunday June 26, 2016. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Hardiman was the former owner of Charlie’s Truck Stop.
