LAUGHING WITH DONNA

One winter morning at breakfast a couple was listening to the radio. They heard the announcer say, "We are going to have 8-10 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the even-numbered side of the street, so the snowplow can get through." The wife went out and moved her car.
A week later while they are eating breakfast, the radio announcer said, "We are expecting 10-12 inches of snow today, you will need to move your car to the odd-numbered side of the street so the snowplow can get through." So the wife went out and moved her car again.
The next week, while they were eating breakfast, the radio announcer said, "We are expecting 12-14 inches of snow today and you must park..." Then the power went off! The wife was very upset. With a worried look on her face she said, "Honey, I don't know what to do. Which side of the street am I supposed to park on?"
With the love and understanding in his voice that all men who are married to blondes exhibit, her husband said, "Why don't you just leave it in the garage this time."

Elkmont's Trackless Train Trek Half Marathon  - aptly renamed to Elkmont's Hound Dog Half Marathon after local hound dog, Ludivine steals the show by wandering to the starting line in time to join the runners and finish 7th overall in our inaugural event to raise funds for the track and cross country programs at Elkmont High School.

COACH'S CORNER:
Just want to assure everyone I fully realize the consideration in the cost of races. This race proceeds go to our kids in Elkmont that run XC and track. We have $0 proceeds as do many XC and track programs in rural areas. We do not have a track and no equipment. We are purchasing equipment with these proceeds. We have purchased starting blocks, hurdles and shot puts (indoor and outdoor) with proceeds. We come from a rural school and county and instead of charging the athletes upwards of $130 in fees, I can now open the team to many, many kids who could not afford the fees. Each race we enter is an average of $150.00. That is for XC, indoor, and outdoor meets. With an average of 25 meets per year that is $3750.00 for kids to compete in their sport that is not supplied by the school or revenue from gates as other sports. This does not even include travel and hotels for out of town meets. The race profits 100% goes to the teams and fosters kids love of running and competing. So many more have gotten to try out and travel with us to races. So when considering registering for our race please know you are helping a kid who may not have ever been able to know the great feeling of wind in your face and sweat down your back and the sheer feeling of accomplishment when finishing a race....hopefully for years to come!!!

DON'T FORGET TO VOTE

Voters in Limestone County will head to the polls tomorrow for the  special election to select our Federal Senator.  Jeff Sessions represented Alabama for many years and did so with honor.  He now serves in the Trump administration as the Attorney General, in the Department of Justice.

The election is set for November 7 at Elkmont Town Hall (if you are in district) or your local voting place.  You can vote between 7 am-7 pm. Don't forget to bring ID, your driver's license works. Turnout will probably be low so your vote carries much more weight.

Roy Moore beat Luther Strange in the run off primary election earlier this year to be the Republican candidate.  Doug Jones is on the opposite side of the ballot as the Democrat candidate.

Hill Spirit doesn't support either candidate, not a Roy Moore fan.  If he is innocent of accusations, all is good. If he is guilty, he will be removed and Governor Ivey will select a replacement.  Can't support Doug Jones because of his issue positions, not because he is a Democrat. Still believe Mo Brooks would have been the best nominee and all this would have been avoided.  On a happy note, whoever is elected will only have a two year term before the next senate election.

REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE
Roy Moore (name is the more info link) has served as an Alabama Supreme Court Judge.

DEMOCRAT CANDIDATE
Don Jones (name is the more info link) was appointed U.S. attorney in Birmingham, Alabama, by former President Bill Clinton in 1997. Jones identified increasing the minimum wage, prioritizing education as a job creator, encouraging renewable energy and conservation, abortion rights, and preventing discrimination against individuals with pre-existing conditions as policy priorities.

IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME AT THE SUGAR BUCKET

For over a hundred years, members of the Holt family have lived in the Elkmont area . Two of the sisters, Tonia Underwood and Rhonda Buelow, have searched through Ohio, Nashville, Missouri and local spots for the unusual, for the old and for the things that touch the heart.

To allow them to fuel their passion of looking in old barns and going to yard sales for rare treasures, the Sugar Bucket Mercantile was created.  Our Elkmont graduates are  now able to share their love of primitive Americana with fellow fans.

You will find a little bit of home reflected in the windows as you drive through Elkmont.  With homemade quilts, quilt balls, pot holders, local paintings and so much more mixed in with old furniture, you can step back in time.

Sugar Bucket Mercantile, the cute little store in Elkmont, is all dressed up for Christmas. It is going to get colder this weekend and it may put thoughts of Christmas shopping in dancing in your head.  Yes, there really is such a thing as a sugar bucket.  When you drop by, ask about it.

The Sugar Bucket Mercantile, Paper Trail Antiques  and the Rustic Rooster would be fantastic places to fill those Christmas list.
