ELKMONT AT THE LIMESTONE COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING

The Limestone County Commission April meeting had some business items that concerned Elkmont.

Approved a change order for a $9,000 credit on additional professional services for corrective design on the Cowford and Elkmont community safe rooms.
 
Nominated David Glanton, John Beatty and Helen Carter for the county Board of Equalization for a four-year term that starts Oct. 1. Gov. Robert Bentley will make the appointment.

CLARA MAE KING - OBITUARY

Clara Mae King Loveless age 93 of Elkmont, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Limestone Health Facility. Mrs. Loveless was born February 15, 1922 in Limestone County, AL to Arthur King and Nellie Faulkner King.

Services will be Thursday, 2:00 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Green officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Pettusville Cemetery.

Mrs. Loveless was a member of the Methodist Church.

Preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Nellie King; one son, Billy Joe Loveless; four sisters.

Survived by one son, Donald Wayne Loveless and wife, Annette of Elkmont; one grandchild, Donna Loveless Patterson and husband, Trevor of Athens; two great-grandchildren, Tori and Alli Patterson both of Athens; one brother, James King and wife, Margaret of Ardmore; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Joe Johnson, Jimmy Callahan, Doug Warner, Kenneth Robinson, Trevor Patterson and Kevin Robinson.

Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society.

THOMAS ODELL JACKSON - OBITUARY

Thomas Odell Jackson age 84 of Elkmont, passed away Sunday, April 5. 2015 at his residence. Mr. Jackson was born September 9, 1930 in Limestone County, AL to David Jerome Jackson and Ida Lillian Vinson Jackson.

Services will be Wednesday, April 8, 2015 2:30 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Leslie Bagsby and Scott Pepper officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery.

Mr. Jackson was a member of Leggtown Church of Christ and was retired from Martin and Colby Construction Company.

Preceded in death by his parents, David and Ida Jackson; one grandson, Bryan Jackson; three brothers, Woodrow Jackson, David Jackson and Mason Jackson; three sisters, Martha Kelley, Geneva Watson and Reba Harrison.

Survived by his wife, Evelyn Jackson of Elkmont; six sons, Dwight Jackson of Athens, Billy Jackson and wife, Rita of Athens, Johnny Jackson and wife, Ann of Athens, Ronald Jackson of Elkmont, Randell Jackson and wife, Sherry of Athens and Donny Jackson of Athens; two daughters, Shelia Wilbanks, and husband, Dale of Athens and Deborah King and husband, Randy of Elkmont; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jory Jackson, Brandon Jackson, Brody Jackson, Shannon Wilbanks, Jamie King and Randy King. Honorary pallbearer will be Will Jackson.

CHICKEN STEW AT THE FIRE HOUSE

The Elkmont Volunteer Fire Department had their fundraiser Chicken Stew, April 4.  They made sixty gallons that disappeared throughout the day.  Being a chilly day, the chicken stew was a great chance to warm up.  With games happening at the ball fields, news soon spread and many found their way to the fire department for a hot lunch.

A Note From the Fire Department:
We would like to THANK everyone who came out and supported the department with our chicken stew today, it was a big success. We sold just about all the stew. Thanks the Kathy and Charlie Cothern for all their hard work and for cooking the stew. We also appreciate those who brought desserts or helped out in other ways.  Our community always comes to support us and WE THANK YOU FOR THAT.

THE COUPON PATROL WANTS YOU TO KNOW

The Elkmont based coupon group, The Coupon Patrol, TCP had planned to take a break in April, but a need for help has come to our attention. We will not be collecting as a group but do ask that if you are called to help in this effort that you let Jennifer know you are with TCP. Please help if you can & be in prayer for this need. If any of our members donate, please let DHR know you belong to TCP. Keep in mind one item is needed and appreciated just as much as twenty items are, so don't think you can't help with a small donation. YOU can!

Limestone County DHR Community Resources 

There are some items that we can always use in our pantry that we use for emergencies, for placement of children, and to assist seniors when needed. If you or your group would like to donate any of these items--it does not have to be in large amounts--please just bring them to the office. Items that we need right now-meaning our supply is low:
Children's shampoo, children's bath gel, baby shampoo, shave kits for teen boys, deodorant for teen boys, large size cosmetic bags that full size shampoo will fit in.

STORM DAMAGE IN THE ELKMONT AREA

The storms raged and hail came down but once again the tornadoes went east of Elkmont.  Straight line winds whipped through Friday night knocking down fences, topping sheds and bringing down tree limbs.  Hayes Mill was one place that took a beating as high winds moved an empty trailer off its blocks and down the yard.  Trailers are NOT good places to be in severe weather.

The Elkmont Fire Department was there to make sure everything and everybody was safe.

HUNTING EGGS IN THE DARK

The Elkmont United Methodist Church had its annual Easter Egg Hunt, March 28. It was a bit cool but they had a record amount of kiddos.  

Beth Hobbs did such a fantastic job organizing this fun event. The church provided grilled hotdogs, chips and drinks for everyone in attendance. Crafts and face painting was a big hit. As darkness fell, the fun began as the hunting with flashlights began. Close to 300 eggs had tucked away, just waiting for little hands to pick them up.
