JOLANDA JANE THORNTON - OBITUARY

Mrs. Jolanda Jane Thornton, 49 of Elkmont, died Sunday in Elkmont. Mrs. Thornton was born August 21, 1966 in Morgan County, she was a member of Sandlin Road Church of Christ and a Bus Driver at Elkmont High School.

There will be a 6PM Memorial Service Monday, September 14, at Sandlin Road Church of Christ with David Fanning officiating, Spry Funeral Home directing.

Hello Elkmont Alabama blog readers! My name is Adriel McMahan and I'm currently attending Elkmont High School as a senior. Over the past year, I've developed a passion for journalism. I spent the summer as an intern for the News Courier writing for my own personal beauty column. I also wrote articles about Athens and the surrounding areas such as upcoming restaurants, activities, sport events, and much more! 

 
I'm also published in many Courier papers and two magazines, the Blitz and the Limestone Life. My story in the Blitz sports magazine was about Donnie Johns and how he started as an Elkmont High School football player, but is now Elkmont's beloved police officer. 

The Limestone Life magazine was centered around strong women this month, and I wrote about Mrs. Christy Paysinger and how she has stayed strong throughout her daughter's battle with cancer. 
 
 
I plan to attend the University of Alabama in the Fall of 2016 and major in Journalism. My ultimate goal is to become an editor for Times Inc. I'm excited to say that I will now be helping out with the Elkmont Alabama blog! I can't wait to share my writing with you!

David Morris Holt, age 75, of Elkmont passed away Friday, September 4, 2015 at his residence.
Memorial services will be planned at a later date. Limestone Chapel Funeral Home assisting the family.

CLARA ALLEN STANFORD - OBITUARY

Mrs. Clara Allen Stanford, 90 of Elkmont, died Wednesday at National Health Care in Pulaski, Tennessee. Mrs. Stanford was born May 2, 1925 in Giles County, Tennessee, she was a member of Elkmont Church of Christ and retired from Athens Lingerie. 

Services will be 11AM Saturday at Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Ferguson officiating, burial in Antioch Cemetery, visitation is from 6-9PM Friday at Spry Funeral Home. 

Survivors: Sons: Phillip R. Stanford of Athens, James Allen Stanford and wife Elaine of Taft, TN, Randy D. Stanford and wife Judy of Elkmont; Daughter-in-Laws: Elizabeth Stanford of Prospect, TN, Faye Stanford of Ardmore, AL; Six Grandchildren; Thirteen Great Grandchildren; One Great Great Grandson. 

Pallbearers: Gabriel Stanford, Chad Stanford, Neil Stanford, Jeff Wales, Robert Erwin, Mark Palmer.

ELKMONT MARKET AND COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Everyone is Alabama knows that nothing competes with first weekend of college football.. well Alabama vs Auburn game does but besides that. :) The next Elkmont Market is Oct 10. Which is also the weekend of Belle Chevre's Southern Reinvention and the Running of the Goats 5K and 10K. Pass along and let Chris Paysinger know if anyone is interested in a booth. JERRY LEE PEPPER - OBITUARY

Jerry Lee Pepper

August 20, 1935 - September 1, 2015

Jerry Lee Pepper, better known as "Buddy", passed away September 1, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was a longtime member of the Church of Christ. He served 4 years active duty in the Army. 

 He is survived by his beloved wife, Cornelia Brackeen Pepper of 57 years. Three sons, Michael Pepper (Starr) of Elkmont, Zachary Pepper (Emma) of Athens, Kevin Pepper of Elkmont, and one daughter Selina Ford (Sammy) of Athens. He is also survived by his grandchildren whom he loved and by whom he was adored. 

Funeral service will be Thursday, September 3rd at 1:00 pm at McConnell Funeral Home with visitation from 11:00 until 12:45 pm. Burial will be in the Athens Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of North AL or The Wounded Warrior Project.

SHAVED ICE ANYONE?

HillSpirit has so missed having shaved ice in Elkmont; was so sad when the Pitchfork disappeared.  However, we can get our shaved ice in downtown Elkmont on Thursdays.  The Kong Ice truck has put us on its route. Look for the them for an afterschool treat tomorrow.

 

MARY LOU ADAMS - OBITUARY

Mary Lou Adams, age 88 of Elkmont, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at her residence Mrs. Adams was born April 2, 1927 in Paulin, GA to Herbert Chester Daniell and Cora Estelle Rose Daniell.

Services will be Tuesday, September 1, 2015 11:00 a.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Bob Felgar officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Cora Daniell; husband, Rev. James P. Adams; son, Mike Adams; daughter, Deborah Campbell; sister, Margaret Lewis.

Survived by her two daughters, Anne Adams Case and husband, James and Jane Phillips and husband, Mickey; brother, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Greg Lauderdale, Ricky Adams, Lance Adams, Daniel Hovis, Aaron Hovis and Jerry Campbell.
