CHRISTMAS DINNER WITH THE LIONS CLUB

Each December, the Elkmont Lions Club gets together and celebrate the year that is almost gone and discuss plans for the upcoming.  This year's Christmas dinner was held at the Red Caboose. 2014 Christmas Dinner was last night and if I do say so myself I think it was one of the BEST yet, Thankful for all out Special Guest Elkmont Mayor and the Councilmen that came.

We had some special guests:
One of our 2014 Scholarship winners Brianne Hargrove, her dad David and sister Emma

Kalynn Clinard and her Granddad, Wayne, came and I think they had as much fun as all the Lions

Special Thanks to Robby and Dana Newport for what they do to help the Elkmont Christmas parade be a success. Mason and Margie McCary from the Mill Creek RV Park were also in attendance; they are a great part of our 10K Run. Zeke (Ardmore Pizza Inn) and his crew did another fantastic job on the food. Special THANKS for all the spouses and Lions' members who were there, sorry for those who missed it. Looking for another GREAT year as the Lions Club continues to help the community. We just ask that you, the Town of Elkmont, support the Lions as you always have.

The awards given at the dinner were:

Past President - Howard (Dickie)  Hobbs Jr

Lion of the Year - Mike Gooch; Mike has been the Secretary/Treasurer for many many years and does a wonderful job.

Each year our Elkmont Lions Club (a service club dedicated to helping Elkmont), is hard at work and involved in so many things.

HOW THEY SERVE THE ELKMONT COMMUNITY:
*Two $1500.00 scholarships are awarded to seniors at Elkmont High School

*Provide eye glasses and eye exams for kids in need in the Elkmont School district

*Help the Boys Scouts, Leader Dog and Southeastern Guide Dog (place guide dogs with people who need assistance)
Buy ads in the Elkmont Football and Basketball programs to support our teams

*Help the Elkmont Cross Country team - special thank you to the cross country team for providing a lot of help with some of our projects as well as run in the 10K Run

*Involved with the MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Bike Ride by providing a rest and water stop in Elkmont

HOW DO THEY FUND IT?
Our Community projects start in June, with the Smoking Railroad Street BBQ Cookoff, August Football tickets sales, September we have a Dove Shoot and The last Saturday we have the Rails to Trails 10K Run we finish the year with the Christmas Parade.

WHAT IS A LIONS CLUB?
Lions Clubs – Ready to Help, Worldwide
Whenever a Lions club gets together, problems get smaller. And communities get better. That's because we help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy.

The World's Largest Service Club Organization

There are 46,000 clubs and 1.35 million members that make us the world's largest service club organization. We're also one of the most effective. Our members do whatever is needed to help their local communities. Everywhere we work, we make friends. With children who need eyeglasses, with seniors who don’t have enough to eat and with people we may never meet.
