FLOYD O'NEAL LONG - OBITUARY


Floyd O’Neal Long, age 74 of Athens, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at Athens Limestone Hospital. Mr. Long was born October 21, 1943 in Limestone County, to Floyd Green Long and Daisy Marie Kelley Long. Mr. Long was a US Army Vietnam Veteran. 
 
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Billy Gene Long. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Long of 41 years; three daughters, Donna McCown and husband Kevin of Elkmont; Kristie Andrews of Harvest, AL; Hollie Long of Athens; three brothers, David Long of Athens; Charles Long and wife Paula of Athens; M F Long and wife Kathy of Lester; four sisters, Nella Faye Harrison of Lester; Evelyn Sinard and husband Harvey of Athens; Lounette Long Wilson of Athens; Connie Ball of Athens; six grandchildren, Collin Wray and wife Jasmine, Ryan Wray and wife Brittany, Madeline Curley, Katie Andrews, Kaleb Andrews, and Kade McCown; two great-grandchildren, Lillyanna Wray and Camryn Wray, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Monday, April 30, 2018 at 2 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Doug Colwell officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 6-9 at McConnell Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be James Curley, Dwight Brumitt, Michael Harrison, Keith Defoe, Tim Lucier, and Kevin Hall. Honorary pallbearer will be Jorge Rodriguez.

ALICE PEARLENE ROSE - OBITUARY


Mrs. Alice Pearlene Rose, age 99 of Athens, died Sunday at her residence. Mrs. Rose was born September 11, 1918 in Wayne County, Tennessee and she was a member of Northside Church of Christ.


Survivors: 
Daughters: Betty Nichols of Elkmont and Margaret Huddleston of Ohio
Son: Eugene Rose Jr. of Indiana
Twenty-five Grandchildren, Several Great-Grandchildren, Great-Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great-Great-Grandchildren.  

There was a 2 pm Graveside Service Friday, February 23, 2018 at Sandlin Cemetery, Spry Funeral Home Directing. No Visitation was planned.

JAMES LEORY HAND - OBITUARY

James Leroy Hand, age 68 of Athens, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Vanderbilt Hospital. Mr. Hand was born June 11, 1949 in Plant City, FL to William Herman Hand and Martha Mildred Rogers Hand. Preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Wayne Hand.
 

Services will be Tuesday, February 20, 2018 2:00 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Donald Terry officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 11:00 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Survived by his wife of 48 years, Paulette Hand of Athens; two sons, James Lee Hand and Jeromey Hand and wife, Paula both of Athens; one daughter, Michelle Helms and husband, Chris of Elkmont; grandsons, Gunnar, Braxton, Cade, Parker and Tyler; granddaughters, Emeril, McKenzie; one great-granddaughter, Londyn; two sisters, Jackie and Joanna both of OK; two brothers, Bobby Hand and wife, Ruthie of Toney, AL and Ray Hand of CA.

Mr. Hand served as a Police Officer for over 28 years; he worked as Security at Athens State College for 35 years. He was a member of Truth Baptist Church. He loved life, enjoyed fishing, camping and helping others in their time of need.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Crabtree, Thomas Townsend, Donnie Johns, Trevor Harris, Brett Constable and Stanley McNatt.

REID CARDER - OBITUARY

Reid Carder of Elkmont, age 80, died February 16, 2018. Funeral will be Thursday, February 22 at noon at McConnell Memorial Chapel with visitation from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Germantown Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mary “Susie” Carder

MARILYN LEWIS GRAY - OBITUARY


Marilyn Lewis Gray, age 75 of Elkmont, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 at her residence. She was born June 22, 1942 in Franklin County to A.H. Lewis Jr. and Eva Childers Lewis. Preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Joel Carwile officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Survived by her husband of 54 years, Kenneth H. Gray; two daughters, Kelley Anderson of Athens and Katherine “Kathy” Gray of Elkmont; three grandchildren, Savannah, Morganne and Grayson Anderson; one brother, Bill Lewis of Decatur; one sister, Vonda Thublin and husband, Marcus “Tut” of Decatur.

GEORGE NAY - OBITUARY


George Nay

September 26, 1925 - January 19, 2018

George Edward Nay, 92, retired nursing home custodian. Mr. Nay died Friday, January 19, 2018 at Athens Health and Rehabilitation. He was born September 26, 1925, in Sterling, NJ. He was baptized into the Catholic Faith, July 29, 1926. George was a survivor, after spending 4 years in a TB Sanatorium; he became a custodian and an audio visual operator at Morris View Nursing Home in Morristown, NJ, for 43 years. He was married to the former Shirley Nay for 18 years. They moved to Athens in 1994. George's hobbies included photography and coin collecting. 
 
Survivors include step-daughter Carlene Freehauf of Athens and step-son Bill Lackey of Corinth, MS. Seven Step-grandchildren Craig Freehauf of TN, Sonya Phillips of Elkmont, George Lackey of IL, Jerry Lackey of NH, Dennis Lackey of IN, Marie Lackey and Ted Lackey of MA, and eleven step-great grandchildren. 

There will be a memorial service Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 12 p.m. at Saint Timothy's Episcopal church, 207 E. Washington Street in Athens with Kelton Riley officiating

JESSIE MAE TODD JONES POLLITT - OBITUARY


Jessie Mae Todd Jones Pollitt, age 87 of Athens, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at her residence. Mrs. Pollitt was born September 9, 1929 in Limestone County, AL to Robert Andrew Todd and Addie Gertrude Coleman Todd.

Services will be Friday, March 3, 2017 2:00 p.m., at Nebo Community Church with Mike Moore and Cecil Norman officiating. The body will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Limestone
Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Survived by two daughters, Kay Jones Wilson of Elkmont and Janie Robinson of Athens; three sons, Ralph “Bubba” Jones, Tim Jones and Robert Jones all of Athens; one sister, Bobbie Lambert of Athens; one half-brother, Larry Curry of Athens; one half-sister, Layne Roberts.

Pallbearers will be Chad Abernathy, Daniel McCrary, Ryan Ledford, Valderius Collins, Ty Gates and Jonathan McCrary. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

TOMMY LEE WRAY - OBITUARY

Tommy Lee Wray, 60 of Elkmont, died Tuesday at his residence. Mr. Wray was born May 3, 1956 in Limestone County.

There will be a 2PM Graveside Service Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Pettusville Cemetery. Spry Funeral Home is directing.

Survivors: 
Brothers: David Wray and Randy Wray 

Sisters: 
Alice McNatt, Ann Strange, Mary Stone, Judy VanHoozer, Jane Koger, Barbara Lewis and Linda Crow 

Grandchildren: Tori and Logan Mitchell Son-in-Law: Chris Mitchell.
