HAVE YOU TRIED OFF THE GRILL YET?

We have a few more days to help our favorite steakhouse advance to the next bracket in the Best Steak Contest, sponsored by the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association. Off the Grill has an Elkmont address which qualifies them to be on the blog but it really is over at 28730 Highway 99.  If you haven't been there before, it's worth trying.   Off the Grill’s ribeyes have attracted diners from Decatur, eastern Madison County and Pulaski, Tennessee. Father and son J.D. and Josh Adams opened the restaurant in January.

“There is one secret why our steaks are so good, which is not much of a secret, we cook them on a charcoal and hickory grill, just like we do at home. It is a flavor that can’t be imitated,” said Josh Adams.

There are currently four divisions — North, South, Central and Gulf — featuring four restaurants that make up the “Sizzling 16.” The top two winners from each of the divisions will advance to the “Enticing 8,” which will be announced Monday.

North Alabama restaurants featured in the “Sizzling 16” bracket include: Momma’s Roadhouse Grill, Falkville; Off the Grill, Elkmont; Oh! Bryan’s Family Steakhouse, Tuscumbia; and Simp McGee’s, Decatur.

Since July 1, steak lovers have been participating in the nomination process by visiting ALABAMA'S BEST STEAK to vote for their favorite ribeye steak restaurant in the state. This portion of the contest generated 8,933 votes and 118 nominated restaurants.

Restaurants who receive the most votes as part of the “Enticing 8” will advance to the “Fiery 4”. Once the “Fiery 4” restaurants have been determined by consumers, a team of undisclosed judges will visit each top restaurant and try their ribeye steak. Judges will score each restaurant and their results will ultimately determine the winner of the Alabama’s Best Steak contest.

The winning restaurant will be announced at a media event to kick off the 50th Anniversary of October Beef Month in Alabama.
