ENGAGEMENT - MATTHEW BROWN AND JUDY BOATMAN



Clarence and Darcy Boatman of Buffalo, N.Y., announce the engagement of their daughter, Judy Janelle Boatman, to Matthew Stephen Brown, son of David and Karla Brown of Elkmont.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Janet Boatman of Picture Rocks, Pa., and Judy Graves of Nantucket, Mass., and the late Clarence Boatman.

She is a 2007 graduate of Kenmore West High School and a 2011 graduate of the University of Alabama at Huntsville where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Kathryn G. Brown of Lawrenceburg, Tenn. and Jean Stephens Fling of Ethridge, Tenn., and the late Clyde J. Brown and Carlton Stephens.

He is a 2006 graduate of Elkmont High School and a 2011 graduate of the University of Alabama at Huntsville where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering.

The wedding is planned for Oct. 8 at Madelyn’s in the Grove in Athens.

YOUTH BASKETBALL SIGNUPS THIS SATURDAY

Elkmont Youth League will be holding Rec. League Basketball sign-ups on the following dates in the Youth League concession stand:

 Saturday October 1  9am -noon
 Tuesday October 4 6pm - 8pm
 Thursday October 6 6pm - 8pm
 Saturday October 8 9am - noon

ELKMONT CROSS COUNTRY BOYS TEAM TAKES SECOND AT MADISON ACADEMY

Elkmont High School’s boys cross country team took second recently in the Madison Academy Mustang Invitational

Adam McMahan led the way for the Red Devils with a second place finish with a time of 18:51. Teammate Tyler Helms followed, finishing third with a time of 19:30. Michael Haney was 14th with a time of 22:13. Chance Bailey was 15th with a time of 22:36, while Hayden Hudson rounded out the top 20 with a time of 23:33.

PRE-GAME LOOK AT SHEFFIELD BULLDOGS


The Class 3A, Region 8 race is still in play. 
Sheffield currently is tied for first in the standings 
at 3-0, but have yet to play the toughest teams in 
the region.  They will see how they measure up 
starting Friday.  They play Elkmont, followed by 
Lauderdale County and end the regional schedule 
with the betting favorite region winner, Rogers.   
Sheffield has not won five games in a season 
since 2008 when the Bulldogs won their first five 
and then lost their next six, including a playoff game.

Evaluation:  offense likes to run and defense strongest against running teams, 
middle linebacker most tackles.  New coach; young team.  Bulldog defenders 
are only giving up 10 pts per game. Charles Jackson leads Sheffield with 370 
yards rushing and four touchdowns on 23 carries. 
Key: Contain the Sheffield running game and not allow big running plays.
