BARRY'S CORNER - LIVING IN ELKMONT

A lot has been in the media about Limestone county schools lately. Much of it negative. Mistakes have been made. Adjustments are being made. I hate to see classroom size increases and teachers losing jobs or transferring to grade levels or other schools they may not have chosen except for the adjustments. That being said I am a firm believer in Limestone county schools. I watch teachers daily give their all NO MATTER the circumstances. I see the concern of our administrators and our directors. Students are the utmost concern to all involved. Hard decisions have to be made. Taking accountability for circumstances that have caused the decision may not always happen but the problems are being rectified.

I want parents to be assured that children will receive a quality education in our school system. Why? Educators who care. Watched as one of our directors held back tears talking about the homeless program in our schools. Yes...many of our students are homeless. Many are in foster care. Many are going through things none of us know about. So please take state report cards scores with the knowledge that students are all coming from different situations across this state. We work with living breathing commodities who cannot be judged on one test or one set of data. I know our teachers at Elkmont Elementary are doing their job and more! Our principal works tirelessly. Our directors are looking always to improve instruction. We are prepared to prepare! Preparing little souls to be productive adults. I’m proud to be a part of the Limestone county education community. I don’t always agree with decisions but will always back our hard working students and hard working educators! Have a good one!
