THE RED CABOOSE OPENED YESTERDAY!!!!!

Today was awesome!! Had some hiccups along the way but for our first day, I think it went rather well. The kids did amazing. They worked really hard considering it was a first for all of them. I want to thank everyone that came out to support us and were patient while my teenage crew learned the ropes. The menu is not set in stone.

I will be adding and taking away (tweaking) until it is what we (the town of Elkmont) want. I will post regular updates on Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat as that happens. We are up for suggestions! Please feel free to suggest menu items, hours, etc. This is YOUR restaurant!!

This is our Menu as of today , so feel free to call ahead. Remember, this is not a fast food restaurant and it is cooked to order.

So come on in, sit a spell  and visit.

THE RUSTIC ROOSTER CROWS TODAY

The Rustic Rooster is the newest business to join the Elkmont family.  Located behind the post office at 25565 Levie Davis Drive, it is having its open house, March 18  from 8am to 5 pm. The Grand Opening will be April 22.

My name is Donna McCown. My husband, Kevin, and I recently purchased Wilson and Robbie Davis’ home in downtown Elkmont. You may also know us from Local Peoples Gas Co. We have an online auction (BID IT TO WIN IT) but decided we needed somewhere other than our home for online winning pick up.

Then one day while I was at the park with my granddaughter, it hit me. My home, Elkmont, is too beautiful to keep a secret, so we decided we needed to try and bring more traffic in, to visit our wonderful little town.

That’s where The Rustic Rooster came into play. Items range from antiques/vintage pieces, vinyl creations, crochet, things new and old, and boutique clothes. Also, there is room $5 or less and we are open for your creations as well.

To start out, our hours will be Thursdays and Fridays from 10am to 6pm, Saturdays from 8 am to 5 pm and Sundays from 10 to 4. I am a big believer of supporting our local small businesses because we are the ones that make the world go around.

ARE YOU COMING TO RUN WITH LUDIVINE?

We are excited here in Elkmont as we spruce up our yard and tidy up the porch to welcome visitors to one of our popular annual events next week. Just received word from Coach Pugh that Elkmont is going to be packed for the Hound Dog Half.  Over 400 runners are pre-registered for the race as of February 11.

*Packet pickup is Friday Feb. 17 from 4-7 pm at the Elkmont Town Hall (18890 Upper Fort Hampton Rd, Elkmont, AL 35620) or race morning from 6:00 am to 7:45 am.
On February 18, our town will grow by at least 400 people. The Hound Dog 1/2 is bringing a lot of out of town people to our home. We want to show them our hospitality. We would love to have the community come out and support the runners or volunteer to help in the race. The race begins at 8 am downtown. If you would like to volunteer or just come out to show your support we will all be downtown at the Town Hall at 7 am. Hope to see you there! Weather is supposed to be fantastic.

The race route will start up upper Fort Hampton, turns left on Pettusville Road to Stateline Road, then Veto from the Tennessee state line back to the trail. The homestretch is the five miles back to town.

This will slow traffic down in the downtown area for some time; consider detouring around Elkmont until 11 am. Parking is very limited and will be at the churches and any where you can find a place.  If you live in Elkmont, it may be so much easier to walk.

Hill Spirit Hint: This is unofficial but...  High School and Elkmont Park parking lots may be your best bet to find a place for your car for the event.  It is a tenth of a mile up the hill from downtown.

Horseback riders:
You would enjoy your ride more if you start at the Athens end of the trail.  There probably will not be any parking for your trailers in downtown Elkmont.  The Athens trailhead will be your best bet.  The race will be using the trail north of Elkmont. After 11 am, race runners will be off the trail.

There is still more to do so spend the day with us.  We have several wonderful shops that are well worth a look. Be sure to stop by and visit PaperTrail Antiques, Sugar Bucket and Aardvark Tees. Downtown Elkmont also has the nationally known Belle Chevre Creamery  and Cheese Tasting Shop.  Take a tour and try out their goat cheese or grab a bit to eat at the shop.

Chicken stew is provided for all the runners at the end by our own Whitney Hollingsworth's business, Runnrgirl.

Gin House is located about 1 mile to the west of the downtown area.  It specializes in BBQ and country cookin'.

RED CABOOSE AND BLESSED BY GRACE

Elkmont has the Gin House on 127 and Momma D's by the I-65.  Now, a new restaurant will be coming to downtown Elkmont.  Blessed By Grace BBQ and Soul Food (BBG) recently opened a location next to the railroad tracks on Thatch Road.  It has been so well received that the owners have decided a second location at the Red Caboose is worth trying as well.

BBG is owned by Pastor Mitchell and his lovely wife Lakisha.  Mitchell learned to create wonderful Alabama barbecue from his family and then practiced as a cook at Big Bob Gibson's BBQ.  His secret is the his family recipes.  Great grand-daddy shared his recipes and Dad's white sauce as well as Della's dressing rounded out the collection.

BBG will have its grand opening, August 13. They will be open from 11am - 7pm every day. However, you can visit early and sample their menu this Friday and Saturday from 11am - 5 pm.  The BBG is part of the lunch for the Piney Chapel Tractor Parade tomorrow.

Stop by and welcome our newest business owners to Elkmont.

Kraig & I both appreciate all of the love & support we have gotten from friends, family, and even strangers. We love so much about Elkmont, however we have decided that if we want our business to thrive we need to move. We are so excited to announce that we will be coming to Athens late January 2016!!! OWL BOUTIQUE GRAND OPENING

  HELLO FROM AN OWL:

My name is Alisa Koken, my husband (Rip) and I have lived in Ardmore for over 7 years now and we truly love the North Alabama area. However when thinking of a place of where to start my business, Elkmont was for me. It has made a wonderful effort to support the "shop local" movement and I wanted to be a part of that and the extremely friendly community. I have spent many years riding my horses on the trail and never thought I would be blessed enough to be a part of this wonderful little town. Everyone I have met has been so welcoming and I am thrilled to be here.

Owl Creek Boutique will be a place for other local folk to offer their handcrafted work to you at a reasonable price. We have about ten vendors who are very passionate about what they do and they are all happy to do custom orders. From sprucing up your home to finding the perfect gift for that special occasion, Owl Creek Boutique will have it all!  Refinished & re-purposed furniture, home decor, wreaths, jewelry, folded books, crochet accessories, canvas art and paintings, lotions and scrubs, and baby clothes and accessories are waiting for you to discover.

I have been a newborn and maternity photographer for the past 4 years and have loved every minute of it. Photo shoots will also be offered in addition to our other products and services here at the Owl Creek. The addition of our first baby has only made this part of my business that much more enjoyable!

You are invited to our grand opening on September 19th.  Come celebrate with us as we offer you food, music and a few small giveaways. If you haven't checked out my new business yet, please do! We are open and can't wait to meet you.
After we are all settled in, we will offer weekly craft classes! We want to be involved with the community of Elkmont.
Operating Hours:
Wed-Fri 10-5 and Sat 9-6
Sun, Mon & Tues - closed
