Elkmont resident Henry Pollitz was recently honored for his long career of safe driving for the Frito-Lay company.
Pollitz, an over-the-road driver at the company’s Traffic Center in Pulaski, Tenn., was inducted into the National Private Truck Council Driver Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed on two-to-four drivers per year across the country. Pollitz’s honor makes him the only Frito-Lay driver to be recognized for this accomplishment in more than 20 years.
Pollitz has been employed with Frito-Lay for 32 years. During that time, he has driven nearly 3 million miles without a preventable accident, with career miles driven exceeding 3.5 million.
He is currently a certified safety defensive driving trainer, having qualified to teach Smith System and National Safety Council defensive driving skills. He is also certified in first aid and spent many years as a volunteer firefighter.
Pollitz is an active member of the Traffic Safety Team, participating in numerous activities such as DOT audits, skills maneuvering competitions, accident investigations, school system visits and education classes, company sponsored driving competitions, and much more.
His driving skills have earned him numerous awards at local and national driving competitions both internal and external to Frito-Lay.
Pollitz is married to Carol, with whom he has a son, Chris; and two daughters Margaret and Crystal. He has three grandchildren, Colby, Gracey and Zac.
When he is not working, Pollitz enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, involvement in church activities, and fishing.
