WOW! ELKMONT CROSS COUNTY RECORD FALLS

There are several races to catch you up on!  The EHS Cross Country runners continue to improve with every race!

Dew it on the Trails – October 13
What a great day for racing!  Decatur High School put on a great race for the competitors on October 13.  The beautiful course covered 3.1 miles in Point Mallard Park.  Mild weather set many of the Elkmont runners up to deliver their best performance of the season!  The boys team finished 5th out of 20 teams  and had three finishers in the top 20!

The Lady Devils finished 6th out of 12 teams and had 2 finishers in the top 25.

Alex Green – 26:19 (PR)
Maddie Hobbs – 28:08
Marianna Cooper – 29:16 (PR)
Chloe Hollingsworth – 30:22 (SB)

Coach Pugh's Thoughts:
My team knows my motto is "I hate kids!" I think everyone knows it is far from the truth. Can't explain the pride a coach feels when he sees his athletes giving it their all and achieving goals that some thought were impossible. Yes these kids are all "kids" and get on and old coaches last nerve at times, but I am glad I have the chance to work with each and every one of them. Great race at Pt. Mallard today! Go Red Devils XC!

Athens Bible School Invitational – October 18
ABS has a great course at the Athens Sportsplex but lots of rain left it quite muddy for this race!  But hey – this is CROSS COUNTRY and we don’t mind a little water and mud!  A little change up in the girls race this week – Hannah Hanback led the girls team, which finished 5th out of 9 teams.
Hannah Hanback – 23:07 (PR)
Sammi Jo Pressnell – 23:35
Jensen Pugh – 24:58
Nikki Ristau – 26:56
Maddie Hobbs – 28:23
Alex Green – 28:35
Chloe Hollingsworth – 31:00
Marianna Cooper – 31:52

The boys team finished 3rd out of 12 teams and was led by Tyler Helms, who set a new PR!
Tyler Helms – 17:32 (PR)
Adam McMahan – 18:27
Chance Bailey – 18:39
Tiyler Walts – 20:15
Ethan Shores – 21:19
Jacob Ezell – 21:56
Chandler Johnson – 22:36
Alex Armstrong – 24:20
Chase Prater – 24:53 (PR)
Matthew Clem – 27:40 (SB)
Jake Armstrong – 29:42

Coach Pugh's Thoughts:
Great job EHS XC!! Boys finish 3rd and girls 5th! Tyler Helms place 2nd over all and many top 10 and top 20 awards! These are great kids! You cannot be a successful runner without self discipline and a pride in yourself that keeps you from putting things in your body that will hinder your running! These kids (and all of the runners) are great examples of what taking care of His temple can lead to...self esteem and success! Blessed to be a part of that!

Robin Gaines Team Trial (Bob Jones High School) – October 25
Unfortunately, I do not have the OFFICIAL results for the meet this past Thursday but the Elkmont XC team has some very exciting news to share from this meet……

TYLER HELMS HAS BROKEN THE SCHOOL RECORD!!!!!!

He ran an amazing race – placing 2nd overall with a phenomenal time of 16:57!  Way to go TYLER!  We are very proud of you!

An update of the race will be posted as soon as I get the official results!

Coach Pugh's Thoughts:
Great job to EHS XC tonight at the Bob Jones Robin Gaines Inviational! Everyone posted great times! Tyler Helms reached another milestone today. 16:57! His PR and school record! Great job to all the runners!!! Looking forward to sectionals next week!

Upcoming Race Info
The next race for the Running Red Devils is this Thursday – November 1!  This is the Sectional meet where our teams can earn a spot to compete at the Alabama High School State Meet on November 10.  Sectionals will be held at Cold Springs High School in Bremen, AL.  Our girls will be running at 11:30 and the boys will be running at 12:30.  Being that this meet is on a weekday and so far away, our athletes will be out of school the entire day.  If you see any of them in the halls this week at school, be sure and wish them GOOD LUCK!!

Gretta Armstrong
