ARE THERE REALLY POTATOES LOOSE IN THE RURAL VILLAGE?

What's with all the people in the Rural Village on Monday and Thursday evening? And what about Saturday...downtown at the trail??
It is none other than the participants in the Elkmont Couch Potato to 5K! There are approximately 100 people training for the Chik-fil-A 5K to be
held on April 6 in Athens.

The organizers, Whitney Hollingsworth and Barry Pugh are very excited about the turnout! 100+ from Elkmont and surrounding areas - who would have thought?!?

So, what is the Couch Potato to 5K (C25K)? It is a training program that takes you from being a couch potato to a runner in just 8 weeks. Many that have joined have: (1)never run (unless something was chasing them); (2) run previously in life but let it go by the wayside as they tended to family life (kids sports, etc); and (3)current runners that wanted to run with a group and/or help train a group. Regardless of where you are with your fitness, we have a place for you!

Elkmont's C25K just finished their first week of training. There are many aches and pains but there is even MORE enthusiasm! Monday and Thursday we had a little over 90 RUNNERS come to training and despite the COLD temperatures on Saturday morning, over 60 runners were able to attend the scheduled training.

It is not too late if you are interested! But act fast so you don't miss out on anymore training sessions! We meet on Monday's and Thursday's at 5:30 by the office in the Elkmont Rural Village. Saturday mornings at 8 and the Rails to Trails in Downtown Elkmont. Cost is $45 and includes your race entry fee, race t-shirt(technical shirt) and a C25K team t-shirt!

This evening (2/18/13) starts week 2! Let's do this!!
