ELKMONT RECOGNIZED AS FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE YEAR

The Annual Dinner of the Limestone County Volunteer Fire Department Association was held February 16 at the Beasley Center in Athens.  A huge crowd of volunteer firemen and their families turned out for this program. All of the volunteer fire departments in the county were represented.  There were several awards given out tonight to individual firefighters and local departments.  Representative Dan Williams, Senator Bill Holtzclaw and his wife, Pam, and Rep. Mac McCutcheon and his wife, Debbie, also attended.

The Elkmont Fire Department was recognized as the Fire Department of the Year.  Elkmont's volunteers not only fight fires and help with wrecks but also are there for medical calls requesting lift assists to  heart attack responses.  They also provide help with burning brush and old structures.  The fire department has worked very hard on becoming "debt free" in the last several years during a time when many departments are running in the red.
