The Elkmont Senior Scholar Bowl team is on
Earlier this month, they advanced to the Small School Regionals at Wallace State. Buring through a host of teams, the Red Devils came in second, behind Vinemont.
Elkmont won the Limestone County Scholar Bowl Tournament, February 15. Two Elkmont students made it into the championship round.... Michael Farris and Will Kirkpatrick. Michael had the added honor of being the high scorer in the championship round.
An unlikely good-luck charm has fueled a successful season for the senior high division scholars’ bowl team from Elkmont High School.
Dressed in colorful, flowing tops or dapper bow ties, the Elkmont team won four of five rounds to capture the 2013 county championship during the Feb. 15 Limestone County tournament at Blue Springs Elementary.
Elkmont defeated Tanner, West Limestone, runner-up East Limestone and third-place Ardmore in round-robin play. A close loss to Clements in the final round prevented the Red Devils from finishing with an undefeated record after placing second in last year’s tournament.
“I’m proud of them. We were able to win this year by beating East head-to-head and going 4-1 in the tournament,” said Linda Schmidt, a secondary math teacher at Elkmont who has coached the senior-division team the past three seasons. “My kids wear bow ties on purpose as a lucky charm, and I ask them to dress up for competitions. I think it shows we’re serious about what we’re doing.”
Elkmont has also advanced to the State Tournament (first ever small school) at Hoover High School next week!
Congrads, to these very smart Red Devils. Good luck next week at the State Senior Bowl Championship.
