ELKMONT FFA KNOWS LAND

Congratulations to Elkmont High School FFA for placing 1st at the Alabama FFA State Land Evaluation last week! They will represent the State at the National Land and Range Judging Contest in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma this May.

The Elkmont FFA chapter was the top team in the contest that consisted of the top 4 chapters from each of the 3 FFA Districts in the State. During the contest the members judge a homesite, cropland, pastureland and forestland site. Students also select treatments to help in obtaining higher agricultural production, as well as evaluating sites for selection of suitable home sites. This event is designed to help students learn more about land, difference in soils and their capabilities, methods of soil conservation and improvements.

The team consisted of Justin Williams, Claire Bowling, Luke Campbell and Ashley Bailey. Claire Bowling was the high scoring individual for the contest.
