Abbey Nichole Grossnickle Harris, 33, of Athens, Alabama passed away
Tuesday, June 28, in a motor vehicle accident. Abbey was born in
Portsmouth, Virginia on June 18, 1983 to Wayne Robert Grossnickle and
Tracy Hamilton Mitchell. Abbey attended Athens High School and went on
to receive her Doctorate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
She took great pride in being a professor of psychology at UAB and had a
lifelong love of learning.
Dr. Abbey Harris is survived by her father,
Wayne Robert Grossnickle, of Athens; mother, Tracy Hamilton Mitchell,
and stepfather Jim Mitchell, of Gallatin, TN; stepmother, Shelia
Grossnickle Miller, of Cairo; sister, Emily Kaitlin Grossnickle, and
niece, Cora Grace Murphy of Elkmont; grandmother, Dorothy Grossnickle,
of Lehigh, Ia. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins,
and other loved ones.
Memorials may be made to the National
Autism Association or to the family to be put towards a college fund for
her beloved niece, Cora Grace.
Visitation services will be held
at Limestone Chapel Friday, July 1 from 6 to 9 pm. We will celebrate
Abbey’s beautiful spirit on Saturday, July 2 at 11 am, with graveside
service to follow at Crestview Cemetery in Gallatin, Tn.
