MYKELL MURRAH AND MARSHMELLOWS

The Athens News Courier has an article about the Square One Camp being held by Limestone County Career Technical Center this summer.  One of our Elkmont students is being featured, More Than A Pipe Dream Link.  To read the complete article, pick up a paper at the Pig.  Hard copies can also be found at the newspaper office until next Wednesday.

Highlights:
Mykell Murrah, a sixth grader from Elkmont, has his feet on the ground and that’s why he is interested in becoming an electrician. Murrah, along with about 65 other students from across Limestone County, has spent the week at in a summer camp known as Square One Camp.

On Wednesday, Murrah joined about 15 other students in a class focused on plumbing. Students built marshmallow shooters out of PVC pipe and pipe fittings.“It’s hands-on building,” Murrah said as he shot quickly melting marshmallows at his friends.

The five-day camp introduces incoming sixth- through ninth-grade students to skilled trades like drafting, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, electrical technology, welding and more. JROTC has also been incorporated into the camp so students can work on leadership skills and have fun taking part in athletic activities.
