Edward Dwight “Lightening” Nelson, age 74 of Decatur, AL passed away
on Saturday, January 7, 2017. Mr. Nelson was born on November 23, 1942
in Limestone County to Eldon and Violet Hamilton Nelson. He went to Elkmont High School.
Mr. Nelson is survived by three daughters, Belinda Declairmont, Lisa Nelson, and Tammie Zendejas; one son, Thomas Nelson; grandchildren, Lori Nelson, Austin Nelson, Alexis Nelson, Bonifacio Zendejas, Roman Zendejas, Victoria Zendejas, Colton Smith, Christopher Hulsey, Clarissa Hulsey, and Valerie Hulsey; great-grandchildren, Jayden Peoples, Ayden Burum, Mackenzie Burum, Jase Zendejas, and Aubrey Zendejas; two sisters, Barbara Nelson and Carolyn Nelson; one brother, Thomas “Thunder” Nelson and wife Susan; one niece, Kerri Truett and many other family and friends.
Services for Mr. Nelson will be 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Steve Dorning officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. Burial will take place in Myers Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Alex Zendejas, Austin Nelson, Roman Zendejas, Lynn Nelson, Lester Nelson, and Larry Posey.
Mr. Nelson was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
