ELKMONT AT THE STATE INDOOR TRACK MEET

The Elkmont track teams competed in their first indoor season this year. The Running Red Devils men's team qualified for the Alabama State Championship 1-3A Meet was this weekend.  The Red Devils team got off to a good start on Friday with Chase Prater's third place performance with a time of 10:07 in the 3200.  He was All State in cross-country last fall and just added another title by earning a spot on the All State 1-3A Indoor Track Team.

On Saturday, the Red Devils brought home Elkmont's first state championship. Chase Prater won the 1600 Meter Race with a personal and new school record, 4:37.

Noah Sharp came in second in 60 Meter Hurdles in the state finals. Another Red Devils earning a spot on the All State 1-3A Indoor Track Team.

COACH PUGH'S CORNER:
I've spent my day today watching kids compete. These kids compete and grind and push their way through pain and fatigue that is hard to fathom. I see them light up with pride at a job well done and I see them walk away in disappointment in a race or event that falls short. I see them give everything they possibly can to beat that opponent and turn and shake the hands of that person at the end of the race. It is done in understanding what it actually took to edge them out. I see respect....respect for the process, respect for other competitors and respect most importantly for themselves. Man..if we could just bottle it up and pour it out on these and all of our youth in all aspects of their lives. It would be great! Respecting the process........Try it and results will come! Great to get to see it! Have a good one!

THIS is what our Hound Dog Half Marathon and you, our runners, volunteers and community are supporting....

Pride, Purpose and Persistence! We are a school without a track but that has never stopped these kids from dreaming, believing and achieving.

This has been demonstrated this weekend by their many successes at the Indoor State Track Meet. This is the first year EHS has fielded an indoor track team and what a great season it has been.

Chase Prater is Elkmont's FIRST EVER state champion in the school's history by winning the 1600m run in 4:37. Chase also placed 3rd in the 3200m.

Noah Sharp won 2nd place in the 60m hurdles! Remind me again how you train to run hurdles when you have no track? You train with Pride, Purpose and Persistence! He went from using homemade hurdles to using the hurdles that we purchased last year after our first half marathon.

We had runners competing that didn't make the podium but did achieve personal records this weekend. Congrats to:
Alex Armstrong in the 400m dash (57.56).

Chance Bailey in the 1600 (5:02) and 3200 (10:07)

Chase Prater also ran in the 800m, placing 5th in the state.

We had many other athletes participating but due to very rigid qualifying standards they didn't make it to the state competition....this year.

Thanks for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you all on February 18th!!
