The graveside service for Billy Joe Cook, 77, of Elkmont will be at 2 p.m. today at New Salem Cemetery with Don Smith officiating. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. today at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.
He passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at home.
Billy Joe Cook was born Sept. 10, 1933, in Limestone County to Otis Cook and Ethel Deemer Cook. Mr. Cook was the owner and operator of Salem and Cross Key groceries. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Ethel Cook; daughter, Carrie Cook; brothers, James Cook, Earl Cook, Otis Cook Jr. and George Cook; and sisters, Margaret Cook Williams and Mary “Peg” Cook Edelbrook.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Cook of Elkmont; son, Jimmy Cook and wife Tracie of Madison; daughter, Billie Vanslyke and husband Lester of Houston; grandchildren, Sumner Adcock of Dallas, Kellie Cook and Kylie Cook of Madison; sisters, Betty Burnett of Las Vegas, Judy Humphreys of Clarksville, Tenn., and Nancy Mader of Foley; several nieces and nephews.
