The fifth annual Delmore Days music festival — which celebrates Elkmont natives and country music pioneers Rabon and Alton Delmore — will take place Saturday, June 23, at Founders Hall on the Athens State University campus.
Gates open at 9 a.m. Live music begins at 11 a.m. and continues throughout the day.
The one-day festival will feature performances by Majestics Quartet, Ashland Main, Tilford Sellers, Dixie Bluegrass Boys, Lacey Snider and Turkey Creek Ramblers, David Russell Band, and Just Down the Road.
Alton Delmore (1908-1964) and Rabon Delmore (1916-1952) were two of the biggest country music stars of the 1930s. They wrote more than 1,000 songs; among their best known are “Brown’s Ferry Blues,” “Gonna Lay Down My Old Guitar,” and “Fifteen Miles from Birmingham.”
They were inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
