BELL CHEVRE FILM WINS AWARD

A nine-minute documentary about an Elkmont woman who makes goat cheese won the Alan Hunter Best Alabama Film Award on Sunday during the 15th-annual Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham this past weekend. Directed by Becky Beamer, "Tasia & the Cheese Revolution" documents the story of Huntsville native Tasia Malakasis, owner of Elkmont-based goat cheese creamery and shop Belle Chevre, and was among more than 160 films selected for the festival.  This film will be shown in Elkmont, October 12.

Belle Chevre, 18849 Upper Fort Hampton Rd in Elkmont, has produced handcrafted goat's milk cheese since 1989 and been recognized with more than 50 awards from the American Cheese Society and other national organizations. The cheese has been featured in "Southern Living" magazine, The New York Times and on the "Today" show.
