NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE - FLASH FLOOD WATCH

* FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF ALABAMA AND SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE...INCLUDING 
 LIMESTONE COUNTY

 * THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING * A SERIES OF UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCES MOVING ACROSS THE REGION...WILL RESULT IN NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS NORTHERN ALABAMA AND SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE STARTING THIS EVENING. WITH HIGH AMOUNTS OF AVAILABLE ATMOSPHERIC MOISTURE AND WET TO SATURATED SOIL CONDITIONS... EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL RUN OFF...
PRODUCING FLOODING AND FLASH FLOODING. INTO EARLY TUESDAY EVENING...AN ADDITIONAL TWO TO FOUR INCHES OF RAINFALL IS FORECAST...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE... ESPECIALLY IF CELLS OCCUR OVER THE SAME AREAS. 

* REPEAT EPISODES OF HEAVY RAINFALL WILL PRODUCE FLASH FLOODING OF FLOOD PRONE AREAS. THERE IS ALSO A RISK FOR CREEKS AND STREAMS IN THE REGION TO RISE TO THE TOP OF THEIR BANKS OR TO FLOOD STAGE. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to move across the Tennessee Valley Monday night.


Significant lightning, torrential rain and the potential for large hail and damaging wind gusts over 60mph will develop to our west and track across north Alabama and southern Tennessee between 7 - 11 p.m.

Be prepared for possible warnings as the storms move through. Power outages and downed trees are likely.  One more round of strong to severe storms will be possible on Tuesday before this weather pattern finally breaks down on Wednesday. Highs will remain in the 80s with overnight lows in the middle to upper 60s.
