WHAT'S GOING ON IN ELKMONT THIS WEEK?
30 CHURCH DAY
*Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
DECATUR DAILY AND LEAH SEIBERT
The Decatur Daily had a great article last Friday about Leah and her journey of faith during her fight with cancer. To read complete article: Field of Faith
Highlights:
At the end of every day, whether after spending hours studying for final exams, keeping score for the softball team or undergoing radiation aimed at killing the disease assaulting her body, Leah Seibert’s family opens the Bible and prays.
“Usually
one verse will stick out to me each night. I think often about Job and
all the hardships he faced and how he came out a better person. I look
through the people in the Bible and remember, Hey, God got them through
it,” Seibert said.
For strength, Seibert looks to her community, church, friends and parents, Wade and Kay Loggins. The Loggins adopted Seibert after Kay Loggins’ sister and Seibert’s mother, Cathy Seibert, died from a massive heart attack. Seibert was 5 at the time.
Seibert’s resilient spirit, unbreakable optimism and unbounded faith transformed her school, church and 500-person Limestone County community.“She means everything to the school. I think people look at their situations a little differently because of her. She gives us a spirit of perseverance,” Elkmont High Principal Bill Tribble said. “Those things are what make Leah special. She gives the school pride, reminds us to make every moment of every day count and inspires everyone to work hard because if she can come straight from radiation to the softball field, then no one has an excuse.”
Facing each day with optimism and hope, Seibert does not let the disease define her. She is more than a cancer patient — she is a daughter, friend, teammate, encourager, cheerleader, club member, fighter, 4.14 GPA, lover of life, mentor and believer.

“It’s a real pick-me-up
to be here at school and to be home. Home is a whole lot better. My mama
and daddy have been with me every step of the way. They are my rock."

faith is something that is unbelievable,” said Curt Hollingsworth,
youth pastor at Seibert’s home church, Elkmont Church of Christ. “She
not only wants to strengthen her faith, she wants to help build the
faith in others.”

KICKIN' RED DEVILS IN SWEET SIXTEEN
Our Elkmont boys soccer team is in the state playoffs. Only 16 teams qualify in the 1A-3A and 7A tournaments, which begin Tuesday across the state. Since there is major construction at our football field, Elkmont isn't able to host any playoff games and will be traveling to Tanner at 5 p.m, May 2.

LIONS CAN BE SEEN IN ELKMONT
The Elkmont Lions Club had some members doing a little more work on our little park downtown. It is a tucked away near the Methodist Church, instead of a "secret garden" a secret park.
Adding a coat of paint, new seesaws, and new seat for one of the baby swings. Hope people will start enjoying our shaded park since she is all cleaned up and looks great.
ELKMONT TRACK AND FIELD TEAM HAVE BIG SHOWING IN RUSSELLVILLE
Coach Pugh's Corner
I want to recognize our track athletes and the the hard work these kids are putting in. Track has never had a big school following and usually the fans at the meets are the parents.
Last night, the Elkmont Red Devils team placed second out of sixteen teams at Russellville.
*Noah Sharp won the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. He also place third in the 400 meter race.
*Brantley Hammock placed third in the 3200 meter.
*Boys 4x400 team placed third.
Alex Armstrong, Chance Bailey, Jay Mullis, Noah Sharp
*Boys 4x800 team placed first.
Alex Armstrong, Chance Bailey, Brantley Hammock, Jay Mullis
*Jay Mullis fourth in Long Jump.
*Chance Bailey won the 1600 meter and the 800 meter races.
The Lady Devils had several runners who placed in their events. *Kaylee Varney earned fourth in the 300 meters hurdles. Brianna Barnett placed fourth in discus field event.
These guys work hard and I am very proud to recognize their accomplishments. Congratulation to Ardmore's boys team who finished third. Track teams all across our county are working hard. Our sectionals are Friday and Saturday at James Clemens. I wish everyone a great meet! Have a good one!

MEET MORE KICKIN' RED DEVILS
The last regular season game is this Wednesday vs Clements in an area matchup. However, there are still some players we haven't met yet. Here are more of our Elkmont soccer players here to say hello.
DANIEL VALENCIA CHOSEN AS ALABAMA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America and MaxPreps announced today the 11 boys and 12 girls who have been named the Spring NSCAA/MaxPreps High School State Players of the Week for their on-field efforts from April 12-18. One of Elkmont's own was selected as one of those top players, Daniel Valencia
The NSCAA uses results and statistics
provided by MaxPreps.com to select one boy and one girl honoree from
each participating state competing during the spring high school season.
LADY DEVILS WIN ON SENIOR NIGHT
Senior Night for our Elkmont soccer players was a wild and stormy one. This night where we recognize our seniors and their accomplishments was scheduled with our area rivals, Clements. The rain had rolled in and wet field conditions were a challenge for our Lady Devils. However, they were able to beat the Lady Colts, 2-1.
Right before the heavens opened and the rain came down in bucketfuls, the seniors were presented with their families. We are proud of all they have done to help build the Elkmont soccer program.
We ended up being rained out and had just enough time to take pictures. The boys are rescheduled for Wednesday at Ardmore City Park for the last area matchup vs Clements.
KICKIN' RED DEVILS SCORCHED MARS HILL
With Senior Night having been cut short by Mother Nature last Friday, Elkmont celebrated its Seniors on the field Monday night with a 12-2 area win over Mars Hill.
Senior Danny Valencia had four goals and two assists while Senior Alex Alvarado had four assists and two goals.
Rafael Aguilar and Ronaldo Aguilar each had one goal and one assist. Mark Pena, Luis Valencia, Ben Besherse, and Braden Long scored goals while Eliseo Nava registered an assist. Tee Boyd had ten saves.
The Clements game that was rained out last Friday is rescheduled for 5:00 pm on Wednesday at Ardmore City Park. The Clements game on Wednesday is the last regular season game.

ELKMONT'S COUNTRY EVENTS LOVES CELEBRATIONS
One of the charity fundraising rides yesterday was hosted by Jennifer and Chad McElhiney with festivities later at their home. As Hill Spirit heard the sounds of ole' fashioned fun last night on the curve, it made one think...do you know about your neighbors, Jennifer and Chad and their Country Events venue?
Jennifer and Chad McElhiney came to Elkmont for its small town community, where everyone knows everyone! They have been in Elkmont almost 4 years and love it! As their kids get older and each departs to start the next chapter in his life's journey, the McElhineys have found there is more time to do what they enjoy. Chad and Jennifer's youngest is a freshman at Elkmont and loves it!
Jennifer used to do wedding receptions and catering at a business in St. Louis. She says that since they now have an amazing property (formerly the old bed and breakfast on the curve), it would be a unique venue for country rustic weddings.
The McElhineys have had a few weddings and bridal showers at the house for friends and family. Of course, everyone would always ask when they were opening it up as a business. Jennifer has decided to give it a shot! She loves catering and hosting and has the perfect place. If you are planning a special event, it's time to try something new!
