Obituary:William Osmond (Ozzie) Harrison, age 84, longtime resident of the Cartwright community in Limestone County, passed away on Saturday, March 10, at Limestone Manor.
Ozzie was born on June 1, 1927 to Hampton M. and Tinnie A. Harrison of Lester, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Verna Roberts Harrison; his sister Mary F. Robinson of Rogersville, and his brother David M. Harrison of Shepherdsville, KY .
Survivors include two sisters, Evelyn Harrison and Helen Harrison both of Lester; a daughter Theresa Tucker and husband Larry of Elkmont, AL; sons, Randy and wife Lynn of Birmingham, AL, Tony and wife Cheryl of Elkmont, AL, Ben and wife Beth of Elkmont, AL, and Dan and wife Melinda of Huntsville, AL. There are 16 grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ozzie was a 1945 graduate of West Limestone High School. He served two tours in the U.S. Navy and afterward obtained a B.S. degree in civil engineering from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn) in 1953. He worked in the aerospace industry and retired in 1986 from NASA after serving 26 years as a structural engineer.
Ozzie served as Elder at Craigs Chapel Church of Christ near Salem, AL and Westview Church of Christ in Athens, AL. He was a member of Eastside Church of Christ in Athens, AL upon his death.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. His funeral will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home in Athens, AL with Buc Chumbley and Mark White officiating. Burial will be at New Salem Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Chris Harrison, Brad Harrison, Tyler Tucker, Justin Harrison, Grant Harrison, Caleb Harrison, Chase Harrison, and Chandler Harrison. Honorary Pallbearers will be granddaughters: Denise Brundege, Anna Wade, Amy Tucker, Erin Burton, Olivia Harrison, Emily Harrison, Chelsea Harrison, and Charis Harrison.
