FOLLOWING THE RUNNING RED DEVILS

The Elkmont Cross Country team got an early start Saturday!  They headed to the Indian Mounds at Oakville around 6:30 so that the JV girls were warmed up and ready for their race at 8:30 this morning.  Typical for Oakville, they arrived at the park and were greeted by long, slow moving lines of cars entering the site and parking.  All was good though as the team, parents and coaches came together, selected our "spot" and raised that awesome Red Devil tent!  

With races back to back, Coach Pugh could be found at the starting line encouraging the runners getting ready to start and then he was across the way cheering on the kids as they finished.
The JV teams started off the morning with the girls race at 8:30 and the boys at 8:45.  Their course was a 2.1 mile trek through the park and with the start times so close together, it was difficult to get out on the course to cheer them on! 
 
The meet organizer, Lawrence County High School, kept the meet moving right along and got the 1A-4A (or Small Schools Division) girls race started at 9:00.  There were 266 girls running this race and the Elkmont varsity girls placed 23rd out of 31 teams running in this division.

The Elkmont crew had a slight break after the girls finished and you could find athletes, parents, grandparents and coaches relaxing under the tent and congratulating all the runners that had completed their races for the day.

The final race for Elkmont, 1A-4A Varsity Boys, started at 10:10.  This race had 354 finishers and our boys team placed 10th out of 40 teams!
