Positioning myself where the kids come out of the creek near the finish line ensured me some great photos and reactions from the crowd. Even if you couldn’t get close enough to see the action, you knew when someone went down in the creek just from the collective groans from the spectators. Precious ground could be gained or lost at the creeks. Other things lost at the creek include….shoes and glasses! But it wouldn’t be the Randolph Classic without those things.
Randolph School, the meet host, took the title of the small school boys race with a score of 62. They were followed by Rogers (118) and Elkmont (126) – who had 3 athletes in the top 10 finishers. There were 28 scored teams and 273 finishers in the boys race. Chance Bailey, the first finisher for Elkmont, was 6th overall with a time of 18:00, Adam McMahan was 7th with a time of 18:10 and Tyler Helms was 9th with a time of 18:19.
The rest of the boys team placed as follows:
Chase Prater 49th 20:11
Ethan Shores 59th 20:25
Jacob Ezell 69th 20:54
Tiyler Walts 79th 21:19
Nick Shelton 84th 21:29
Josh Ferrazas 106th 22:10
Davis Hobbs 168th 23:44
Alex Armstrong 170th 23:44
Chandler Johnson 192nd 24:22
Jake Armstrong 208th 25:00
Ben Hobbs 219th 25:24
Sean Jordan 262nd 30:57
All the races were great but my favorite was the last race of the day. Although scored as small school (1A-4A) and large school (5A-6A), all the girls ran in the same race. 285 finishers (166 in the 1A-4A and 119 in the 5A-6A) in this race and from the very beginning, there were several “packs” which made for some exciting racing!
The Lady Red Devils placed 7th out of 15 teams and individual results are:
Sammi Jo Pressnell 19th 22:53
Hannah Hanback 38th 24:31
Adriel McMahan 62nd 25:55
Jensen Pugh 70th 26:10
Nikki Ristau 99th 28:30
Mia Farris 107th 29:05
Taeleur Walts 124th 30:21
Elizabeth Sims 129th 30:41
Gracie McMahan 152nd 33:41
Hannah Clem 165th 44:34
In all, there were over 1000 finishers and 48 school represented at the 2013 Randolph School Cross Country Classic! For a list of complete results please click on AL.MILESPLIT
