WINGS MADNESS BEGINS IN ELKMONT

With the opening of Buffalo Wild Wings, Sam’s All-American Sports Grill, Off the Grill, Moe’s BBQ and Jefferson’s in the past year, north Alabama has transformed into a wings hotspot.  This month, The Decatur Daily will celebrate the fried, grilled, baked and smoked wings doused in sauces ranging from mild to fire and ice to “only on a dare” homicide, in Wings Madness.

During the next four weeks, readers can vote for their favorite wings restaurant. The first round of voting begins today. Individuals can vote online once a day through Monday until 5 p.m., or send in a ballot by mail to Catherine Godbey, c/o The Decatur Daily, 201 First Ave. S.E., Decatur, AL 35601. The restaurant with the most votes in each pairing will move on to the next round.

There is an Elkmont restaurant that made the Wings Madness brackets, Off the Grill.  No, it isn't really in Elkmont but next to the West Limestone baseball fields.  However, since it has an Elkmont address, it qualifies a spot on the Elkmont Alabama blog.

Bracket: Side 2

1. Smokey C’s BBQ & Wings in Decatur: Armed with only backyard experience, Decatur brothers Cory and Casey Culver opened the restaurant in 2008 and created a following with the barbecue and wings.

8. Off the Grill in Elkmont:
Diners from Decatur, Madison County and Tennessee travel to the small town of Elkmont to feast on “J.D.’s famous wings” covered in a “famous Greek sauce.” Father and son J.D. and Josh Adams opened the restaurant on Alabama 99 last year.
