With 255 voters casting their ballots, Elkmont chose Danny Crawford, a Republican, to succeed the late Rep. Dan Williams in a special election Tuesday. Crawford received 176 votes, Henry White gathered 78 votes and rounding out the vote tally was one write-in. Unofficial District #5 results showed
Crawford with 2,216 votes, or 59 percent, to White’s 1,540 votes, or 41
percent. This means our small community of Elkmont was responsible for almost 8% of the winning candidate's total.

“They do hard work and they do it
for the kids,” he said. “It would be nice to show appreciation for them
with a raise. I hope we work toward that.We seem to be losing more
rights, and we’re taking God out of our country, out of schools, out of
our families, and we need to get things right.”
Crawford also said he would work to make sure Alabamians’ Second Amendment rights are protected.“I support concealed carry without permits. I think the Constitution says you’ve got a right to bear arms.”
