Athens died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at home.
Mr. Rice was born Aug. 30, 1947, in Lauderdale County. He was a member of The First Church, Athens, retired from Steelcase, and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Visitation was from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Spry Funeral Home. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at The First Church of Athens. The viewing hour is noon until service time with Dr. Rick Craft and Bruce Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery with full military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Bettye Rice of Athens; son, Shane Rice and wife Sonya of Elkmont; daughters, Susie Satterfield and husband Whit of Scottsboro, and Sebrena Hamilton and husband Danny of Alexandria; brother, Donnie Rice and wife Kay of Elkmont; sister, Kathy White and husband Glenn of Lester; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
