Set to graduate in May 2017, Shores has
been committed to earning well-rounded experience in a number of skilled
trades with a special interest in machinery and welding.
In addition to
his high school course load, Shores works part-time at Turner Medical
Inc. where he assists with skilled trade responsibilities.
“Ethan demonstrates work ethic and
enthusiasm to learn that is needed in today’s workforce,” said Ben
Maples, agriculture instructor at Elkmont High School.
Upon graduation, Ethan plans to attend Calhoun Community College where he will major in machinery and welding.
“I love working with my hands and seeing things built from the ground up to a successfully finished product,” Ethan said.
The Student of the Month scholarship is
given to one high school junior or senior every month during the school
year by the Alabama Construction Recruitment Institute. It is designed
to support students who pursue careers in the construction industry, a
field that offers a wide variety of rewarding career paths.
Upon
graduation, Shores and all other recipients will each receive a $1,000
scholarship to continue his or her education at an Alabama institution
of higher education. Scholarships are made possible through proceeds
from the Big Dog Poker Run, an annual motorcycle benefit ride organized
by CraneWorks and Garrison Steel.
