DID YOU MISS THE SMOKIN' RAILROAD?

After working for nearly a whole year, the Elkmont Lions Club have another Smokin' Railroad BBQ Cookoff in the books.

This year's BBQ event had 16 cooking teams from  Tennessee and of course Alabama who came to test their skills. To decide on the winners, we had 35 KCBS ( Kansas City Barbeque Society) Judges and 2 wonderful KCBS Representatives (Sam and Janet Appleton).

These dedicated judges came from all parts of Alabama, from southern Tennessee and as far as Atlanta.  They travel on their own dime, just for the enjoyment of tasting and judging good food.  We appreciate their support and without them, the Smokin' Railroad wouldn't be possible.

On Friday night, we were honored to have some local entertainment ( NO rain). The streets were covered with people that came out to hear local talent do a little pickin' and singin'. Daniel Jones with his great voice started out the evening; followed by Garris/Cole and Company to close out the night. The streets were full of people that came to hear some good music and they were not disappointed.

THOUGHTS FROM THE LIONS CLUB:
Well, year eight is done and we couldn't have asked for better weather. We had a awesome group of cook teams and KCBS judges.  Janet and Sam Appleton were our KCBS Reps for the Smokin Railroad Street BBQ Cookoff this year. Fantastic jobs by everyone and we loved working with you ALL.

The Elkmont Lions Club would like to thank the vendors for providing food, assorted drinks and sweets to the crowd. Daniel Jones and Lesley Garris and Band for giving us some great music Friday. And to the town of Elkmont, Mayor Tracy Compton and all the Councilmen, THANK YOU. Without you and the other great sponsors, we could not pull this event off each year. Thank you to each of our Elkmont Lions Club members and volunteers Jessica Newport and Beth Kimbrell Little.

We look forward to seeing you all next year. We hope you had a great time in Elkmont and if we can make improvements please let us know.
