Homer Lee Jewell, 85, of Athens, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at his residence. Mr. Jewell was born April 3, 1926, in Limestone County to Irby Lee Jewell and Alice Lee Bost Jewell.
Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery with Chris Jewell and David Sherry officiating.
Mr. Jewell was a member of New Garden Pentecostal Church, a United States Navy veteran of World War II and a retired homebuilder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irby and Alice Jewell; sister, Catherine White; brothers, Bill Jewell and Horace Jewell.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Jackson Jewell of Athens; sons, Don Jewell and wife Janice of Athens; Morris Jewell and wife Mary of Elkmont; daughter, Anita Sherry and husband David of Sioux Falls, S.D.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Margaret Lawrence and Barbara Jackson, both of Elkmont, Ruth Reeves of Rogersville and Dorothy Draper of Athens; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Chris Jewell, Daniel Jewell, Trent Jackson, Mark Jewell, Alton White and Eric Jewell. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandchildren.
