LIMESTONE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING - NOVEMBER 1

Limestone County school board members accepted resignations, hired new employees and took other personnel action at their regular monthly meeting Tuesday.

Among those resigning positions was Jason Black as Clements High School athletic director. Black tendered his resignation Tuesday and alerted members of the media of the change via email. Black will continue his job as a history teacher at Clements.

Board members also approved the following personnel changes Tuesday:

• Accepted the resignations of: Bobby Dison as custodian at Cedar Hill Elementary School, retroactive to Oct. 1; Deana Hollaway as guidance counselor at Tanner High School, effective Nov. 3; and Loyd Birdwell as custodian at Tanner, effective Nov. 1.

• Agreed to hire Crystal Brazell as part-time CNP worker/assistant at Ardmore High School, retroactive to Aug. 15; Matthew Smith as special education inclusion assistant at Blue Springs and Creekside elementary schools, effective Nov. 2; Dawn Yarbrough, special education inclusion assistant at Clements, effective Nov. 2 and for the rest of the school year only;
Rebecca Turner as special education inclusion assistant at Elkmont High School, retroactive to Oct. 3; Jerry Smith as custodian at Piney Chapel Elementary School, effective Nov. 2; and Kandye Gates as Title 1 aide at Piney Chapel, effective Nov. 2 and for the rest of the school year only.

• Agreed to transfer Sherry Mashburn to bus driver at Owens and West Limestone and Wayne Hardiman to bus driver at Owens only.

• Granted requests to retire from: Janet King as CNP worker/assistant at Blue Springs, effective Dec. 1; David Wilbanks as agri-science teacher at Clements, effective Dec. 1; Mary Alice Abercrombie as library assistant at Creekside, effective Dec. 1;
Elise Hickman as business education teacher at Elkmont, effective Dec. 1; Cindy Witt as elementary teacher at Elkmont, effective Dec. 1; Evelyn Stanley as elementary teacher at Johnson Elementary School, effective Nov. 1; Lynn Abernathy as elementary teacher at Owens Elementary School, effective Dec. 1; Harold Robinson as custodian at Owens Elementary School, effective Dec. 1; Keith Turberville as agri-science teacher at Tanner, effective Dec. 1; Diane Noles as elementary teacher at West Limestone High School, effective Dec. 1; and Barry Carroll as superintendent of education, effective Dec. 1.

• Granted leaves of absence to Katie Wilkerson, Laurie Evans, Janie Smith, Katie Clark, Larissa Dison, Courtney Keeton and Susan Harrell.

• Agreed to hire the following substitutes: David Jones as Clements bus driver, Roger Bobst as English teacher at East Limestone high School, Daniel Smith as math teacher at East Limestone, and Linda Cooper as teacher at Piney Chapel.

• Approved the following temporary help: Ericka Zirbel for after-school detention teacher at Blue Springs; Laura Root as extended-day assistant at Creekside, Pearlie Booker as part-time Title I tutor at Johnson, Ashton McCaig as DIBELS Title I teacher at Tanner, and Holly Roberts as supplemental educational services facilitator at Tanner.

• Approved Clay McMeans as boys basketball assistant coach at Tanner.

• Approved contracts with Patsy Nash as Title I parental involvement liaison at Tanner; Rachel’s Challenge, a character-education program at Tanner; Deanne McCart for special education parent transportation; and Phyllis Gill for special education parent transportation.
