ELKMONT AT THE GROUND WATER FESTIVAL
On March 20th, Elkmont fourth grade students were able to attend the 15th annual Ground Water Festival on the Athens State University Campus.
The theme this year was “Wild About Water.” The event featured an ecological-friendly show by magician Steve Trash. The festival is designed to educate students about groundwater as a natural resource; what it is, how it works, and its environmental benefits. Students were involved in hands-on activities to learn about the water cycle, the water filtration process, and the function of wells in supplying water. Some of these activities included stringing water cycle bracelets and making edible aquifers.
Our high school students were among the 86 volunteers from various agencies and organizations who assisted with teaching the activities, guiding the students to their activities, registration, organizing the buses and other duties. Thanks to all the volunteers for their time and effort in making the festival successful!
