WHAT A VETERAN DOES WITH HIS SPARE TIME

Some people love to travel to follow the changing of the fall coloring during October but some run in the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington DC . The Marine Corps Marathon is one of the biggest races in the world and one of the most unique events in the sport of running.  30,000 runners made their way through the 26.2-mile course from Arlington, Virginia to Washington, DC. The Marine Corps Marathon, also known as “The People’s Marathon,” symbolizes the values of the Marine Corps.

Many service members ran or pedaled the 26.2 miles for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.  The marathon is filled with 30,000 stories. Two of there are Elkmont's Bradley Wales and Whitney Hollingsworth.  Brad's time was 4:58:45.  Whitney's time was 3:47:30.

This race was extra special thing for Brad since he was in the Marine Corps.   He served 4 years active duty with an additional 2 years in the reserves.  Sergeant Wales traveled around the world as he was stationed at Paris Island, SC, Fort Belvoir, VA, Okinawa, Japan, Sattahip, Thailand, Pohang, Korea, and New Orleans, LA.

The marathon began in Arlington between the Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon. The course moved through Rosslyn along Lee Highway before turning on Spout Run and the George Washington Parkway. The route continues around D.C. until it ends at the Iwo Jimo Monument.
