The Elkmont Methodist Church is teaching the blessing of giving and helping others. Their youth group has been raising money through chili and stew fundraisers. The time has finally arrived to put that money to work during the best time of the year. The money raised from these fund raisers and donations is used to get gifts for the angels on Elkmont's Angel Tree.
Last weekend, the youth group went shopping. There were a total of seventeen who could make the trip. They were treated to a late lunch for all their hard work and then went to Walmart for those angel gifts. A total of eight angels, ages 9 months to 15 years, were adopted. These were then given to teams of 3 or 4 excited youth ready to find those special presents.
After the angel lists were checked off, they checked it twice to make sure each thing was either on the list or very close. The gifts were then loaded up and off to church they went to wrap everything in Christmas paper and bows. They worked through the afternoon until each angel child ended up with 5-8 packages each.
There are about 15 out of 91 names left on the angel tree at the Dollar Store in Elkmont. They would like to invite you to go out and get one! The Elkmont Methodist Church youth group will be getting a couple more angels. We are so proud of these Elkmont young ladies and men. If you want to get an angel and can't make it to the Dollar Store, they will be glad to do it for you. Contact Robby Newport to let them know. It is important to remember that helping others starts at home, in our community, as we teach our young people to give and serve. As Christ has told us, the best way to teach is providing the example, rather than just saying the words.
