WHAT ABOUT OUR STORM SHELTER?

Our Elkmont community storm shelter has been in the "start, stop" construction stage since last winter.    It was supposedly almost ready in August but it still isn't done.

So what is the status of our shelter? This is the latest from our local Emergency Management Agency.   The construction company did the roof and some other things wrong.  Meetings are in progress  to come up with a plan to fix it.

Translation: Don't hold your breath, our storm shelter probably won't be completed until the Spring Severe Weather Season at the earliest.

Until it is finished, Elkmont will need to rely on the old fashioned storm shelter called an umbrella.  The Elkmont Methodist Church downtown has a basement that all are welcome to use.

If you would like to inquire about our storm shelter, call Daphne Ellison at Limestone County EMA, (256) 232-2631.
