High pressure will strengthen over the southeastern states early this week, leading to a prolonged period of hot and humid weather this week. High temperatures will reach the into the mid 90s on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday are shaping up to be the hottest days of the year with highs in the mid to upper 90s expected for a majority of theTennessee Valley. Heat index values will be near 100 degrees on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday heat index values couldapproach 105 degrees in some locations.
These conditions will be quite uncomfortable for most people but for some it could be dangerous. If you are outdoors, take the health dangers of heat very seriously.
Some important safety tips include:
*Wear light colored, lightweight clothing
*Drink plenty of water
*Avoid alcohol
*Get to a cool place if you feel signs of heat stress.
*Do not leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
*Beat the heat...Check the back seat.
