MEET ELKMONT'S NEW PRINCIPAL

Bill Tribble was named the new principal of Elkmont High School by a unanimous vote at the March school board meeting.

Tribble has now finished his second week as our new principal. The ever curious Hill Spirit sat down with him recently to find out more about our top man at the Hilltop. When the Elkmont principal's position became available with Garth Garris's retirement, he applied for the vacancy because it reminded him of the tight-knit community East Limestone used to be before its explosive growth. “That small community, that is what really drew me to want to be principal at Elkmont. East Limestone used to be what Elkmont is now. I love Elkmont; each day I am here brings something new that shows how special our community is."
As an eager new administrator with his first principal job, he is impressed with the foundation already built at Elkmont. “It's been humbling, the amount of support I've received,” Tribble said. “They're a great staff, the kids are great kids, they've been eager to get to know me. It's been wonderful, I couldn't say enough about the support I've received from the community, staff and students. You only have to look at Elkmont School to know that it has been well-taken care of and loved."

Often a new principal comes to a school and instantly starts to make changes without seeing the great things already in place.  Hill Spirit was thrilled with his unexpected answer to "What changes would you like to bring to Elkmont?".  Mr. Tribble said that he planned on observing what goes on at Elkmont School for the rest of the year.  Over the summer, he will evaluate what is great about Elkmont, what needs a little tinkering and what needs to added or changed and rolling out those improvements next August.

Some goals that are important to him:
*Elkmont's Graduation Improvement
The current graduation rate is 86%. Improving student mentoring and providing more opportunities for staff and students to develop those relationships will encourage more students to graduate.

*Elkmont Is Family
Making Elkmont a school that seeks out and encourages family and the community to be an active part of Elkmont High School. Students and their families should be involved with every aspect of the school experience.  Mr. Tribble has an "open door" policy, wants to meet everyone and listen to their ideas. Everyone is family here at Elkmont.

*Communication

Living in a fast paced world with everyone connected to their devices gives more chances to communicate at a greater level. Most of our teachers are bit shy sharing the wonderful things they do. Encouraging them to let our community know about their classes achievements is important. Involving students in that process is crucial.  One example Hill Spirit has noticed is that the 5th grade students are in charge of developing the school daily announcements slideshow.
