DID YOU MAKE THE SMOKIN' RAILROAD BBQ?

After working for nearly a whole year, the Elkmont Lions Club have another Smokin' Railroad BBQ Cookoff in the books.

This year's BBQ event grew from years past as 30 cooking teams from the three state area of Georgia, Tennessee and of course Alabama came to test their skills. To decide on the winners, we had 47 KCBS ( Kansas City Barbeque Society) Judges and 2 wonderful KCBS Representatives (Sam and Janet Appleton).

These dedicated judges came from all parts of Alabama, from southern Tennessee and as far as Atlanta.  They travel on their own dime, just for the enjoyment of tasting and judging good food.  We appreciate their support and without them, the Smokin' Railroad wouldn't be possible.

On Firday night, we were honored to have some local entertainment ( NO rain). The streets were covered with people that came out to hear local talent do a little pickin' and singin'. Daniel Jones with his great voice started out night out; followed by McCluskey, a young West Limestone talent.

Next on stage was the Bluegrass band BOOMTOWN and Garris/Cole and Company closed the night. The streets were full of people that came to hear some good music and they were not disappointed.

There was also good food. The young people from the Elkmont Cross Country and Track team (a blessing to the community) worked the concession stand for the Lions Club.

We also had a husband and wife team from Cherokee AL with a variety of sweets and cool beverages.

The Town of Elkmont hosted the Cruise-In on Friday from 2-8 pm.

It was a trip down memory lane as many came to see the oldies and go back in time to an earlier age.

There was also the first Annual Cornhole at the Caboose Tournament held in the old bays of the old fire hall building.

Team Valls took the gold with some expert tossing.

The cooks representing 30 teams showed off their BBQ talents and created some awesome meats for the judges.  A few of the judges stated that this year's offerings were some of the best they had had in a while.

People's Choice Award - Buckeye Barbeque
Many of our Smokin' Railroad visitors participated in The People's Choice awards. If you were there, hope you had a chance to sample some of the fantastic pulled pork and chose your favorite.

The awards have been presented and everything is packed up in storage for next year.  We are taking a  few months from BBQ before we will be back to work for next year's Smokin' Railroad.  The Lions Club is hoping to host a even being bigger and better fun filled event next June. Hope to see you then.
